Secrete Window

Well here is another all star movie featuring Johnny Depp. Secrete Window has been in my movie collection for a while and it is a must see.  Mort Rainey (played by Mr. Depp) is a well known writer who seems to have lost his grip on reality. It may not seem that way at first as he spends his days alone in his cabin, mostly taking long afternoon naps. But though the movie Mort's life unravels as his reality becomes something else.

Mary Reilly

It's tribute time!! And this one is for Mary Reilly starring Julia Roberts and John Malkovich. Yes, a movie based on a book that was based on the original book Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. A dark classic that was given a twist.
The story is about a young servant girl in the house of Dr. Jekyll who is a witness to the struggle between her master and his 'assistant' Edward Hyde.
Though we are all familiar with the story of Jekyll and Hyde, you are enthralled by the relationship between the Doctor and the sweet servant girl, who Julia Roberts portrays to perfection. And John Malkovich playing the dual role of Jekyll and Hyde, wonderful! And Glen Close adds some magic to her role as Mrs. Farraday, the head Madame in a whorehouse.
A wonderful dark tale that has a little romance and a little spice to a classic book. All I can say is if your a Julia Roberts fan or a John Malkovich fan, you have got to see this. I gots it on me shelf and it never gets old.

Retreat

D: Finally a movie that doesn't completely suck! Yes ladies, gentlemen, and undecided, we have found a movie that doesn't make you want to blow up your tv. People, I give you the guy from 28 Days Later in a decent physiological suspense thriller.
It starts out with a couple who are going to a secluded cabin on a island to rekindle their marriage. After a few days of being there and the audience given a clue that something happened to make the couple drift apart, a bloodied army guy arrives telling them that a disease has spread through out the world killing everyone. (personally I thought zombie but SPOILER ALERT, its not).
The movie may start slow, but you are actually intrigued with what is happening with the couple and until the army guy shows up you are trying to piece together what happened to shake the marriage. As the movie progresses you begin to wonder, is the disease real or not? You will be guessing until the end that doesn't disappoint you.
Personally, I wouldn't buy this movie. I liked it, not loved it. But, I would recommended it. It's worth the price at the redbox.

N: I agree with D. A lonly island with only a few inhabitants is a great setting for a thriller movie like this. The characters play their parts well. I enjoyed watching Cillian Murphy in this movie. He was great in 28 Days Later... so back to this movie. The marrage is on the rocks, so it would seem that taking a vacation would solve the problems, but secretes are keeping them from reconnecting. But wait.  To make matters worse a stranger appeares on the island. An army guy that seems to have gone AWOL. He as well has secretes that are far more terrifying and at some point he tries to warn them of a virus that has spread killing millions. Until the very end I could not determine if a virus had actually been real  or if it was all in the army guys mind. This physiolgical mind bender is a worth while movie to watch.

Behind Your Eyes

D: A psychological thriller is what this is suppose to be. A story about a loverly couple who are kidnapped and held hostage. Do I sound bored? I should cause that's what happens when you watch this movie. First when it begins you see a killing. And your thinking, "what the what"? Then you see the couple doing their couple thing. Ok whatever. Then when they are on their way to the parents house they get high jacked and taken to an abandoned cabin. There they are tortured. But we the audience are being tortured with weird camera angles weird scene cuts that make you think 'are they trying to put subliminal message's in this or something'?
As it gets further, it just starts to get interesting. And you don't know if your happy with the twist or not.
All in all, a movie that starts slow and ends leaving you with more questions than answers. Just thinking about it is making me sleepy. Recommend for the insomniac.
