The Nun

Hello my beloved spook lovers! Did you miss me? I've been busy with this whole life thing. Going on adventures and such. But I have returned from the catacombs and now I'm back in the spook games. And what lovely creepy film will we be talking about? Aside from clowns, what other character creeps one out? Possessed nuns! Get out they crucifix and get ready to learn about the movie, The Nun.

Part of The Conjuring world, The Nun introduces us to the origins of the evil nun we saw in Conjuring 2. We are sent to the 1950s in Romania. There in a castle we witness the death of a nun, who seems to of committed suicide. After the discovery, the Vatican sends out father Burke, a 'miracle' hunter, and a novic nun named Irene who hasn't taken her vows yet. They are taken to the castle by a young man called Frenchy, who discovered the dead nun. During the first night, some horrifying events take place that lead Burke and Irene (who apparently has visions), to believe that a great evil resides in the castle and is attacking the nuns who reside in it. Soon, Irene, Burke, and Frenchy will discover the ancient evil of the demon known as...Valek.

My first thoughts on this...It was ok. I didn't hate it. I felt some things were lacking. Like, why did they bring the novice nun? Because of the whole, 'she has a gift of visions' thing? She was a neat character and the actress playing her did a good job. It's the same actress who is in a lot of the American Horror Story seasons. So yes, she was perfect. But the point is they did not really work with it like they should have. They glossed over it very quickly so it seemed to of not really mattered. Plus, I felt it didnt fit in with the Conjuring universe. With the Conjuring movies 1 and 2, you felt, at least I did, that in some crazy way it was real. Yes things were over exaggerated, and seemed off, but it worked cause it had some subtlety up to the menacing chaos to come. With this movie, it just throws everything at you. Scary begining, quick intro to main characters, crazy superstition, hey look creepy, screaming, evil stuff, and the beat goes on.

Now for the positive; it was a good story. If you let go of the fact that this is supposed to be part of the Conjuring universe, which is based on true events, and this is totally made up and not based on anything, it's a good movie. Got some interesting characters, nice settings, interesting villain with a back story. Maybe not that spooky, but it had some good points. And I was intrigued throughout the movie. The actors were great I thought, and the atmosphere was great.

My final brain waves on this; it's a decent movie. Not scary, but I think worth a watch. I may get it to add to my collection when it comes out, if I get off my bum and do so. I still have mixed emotions on it, and will have to watch it again to fully grasp it. Till then, I think this will go in the limbo file. Now I must go and make sure that nuns are not possessed. I throw this holy water in your face potential evil one! Ahhh! She's chasing me with her ruler!!
