A Quiet Place

Hello my spooklings! Did you miss me? I missed you. But we must be as silent as can be. Cause something wicked and with super sonic hearing may come hunting us. Yes fresh from the theaters, I bring you the unique thrilling movie, A Quiet Place.

The movie introduces us to a post apocalyptic like world not filled with people and hardly any noises (other than the wind and such). We see a family of five (father, mother, eldest daughter, middle son, and youngest son) searching in a small pharmacy store for supplies. The first thing we learn is that the family is fluent in sign language and uses it to communicate not just because talking would  mean certain death, but also because the eldest daughter can't hear. During their supply run, the youngest boy finds a rocket ship that he wants. But because it makes loud noises, his father tells him he can't have it. His sister gives it to him and on their way home (SPOILER ALERT) the boy puts in the batteries that were taken out and the rocket comes to life, thus ending the boys life as the creatures that use super hearing to find their pray, locates them and kills the boy. A year later the mother is pregnant and the father is trying to not only find more survivors, but to also figure out a way to defend his family against the monsters. But when danger could come with just a single sound, how can a simple family protect themselves against a foe that seems to have no weaknesses?

This movie was AWESOME!!! When I saw this, I was at the edge of my seat. Well, more of cowering in and staying as quiet as possible. The way they did this movie was brilliant. In most thrillers that rely on loud noises and music to induce fear, this movie uses it justifiably and perfectly. During some scenes with the deaf daughter, you don't hear a thing. Kind of like showing you how she experiences the world. And when they bring back the noise, you feel relief but have an appreciation of the situation and have more of a connection with her. The other cool thing is, that the actress playing the deaf daughter, is actually deaf. So its more realistic. And when the whole cast is not talking, their acting seems so much more, better. Since they can't use vocal words, their expressions and gestures seem to have more to them. You can feel the fear, you can feel the joy. So much is being said without being said. Of course they start talking at times, and you just think, 'Oh. Talking. Ok'. But its still so great!

As you can see I have very few complaints about this movie. The characters are good, the story is good. I think the only complaint I have is that the creatures look very CG. But in a way, that doesn't matter. The story and how its told is great. And that's what matters. I highly recommend this. It is worth seeing in theaters. Go and enjoy, but try not to make a sound...get gummies instead. Less noise.  Shhhhhhh....
