Intruders

Whats this thriller really about I ask myself. Maybe that this flick is about bad memories that have become deeply receded in the back of John Farrow's mind (Clive Owen) and such unfulfilling images during the duration of the film ooze out on the silver screen in such a way that I start wanting to be sedated. Though another strange complication arises when Johns daughter starts having surrea visions of the same kapter or black phantoms stalker that once wreaked a nightmarish reality upon John when he was a boy. A lackluster flick no doubt.

The Jacket

N: As you plead for mercy. As you beg on your knees for your  torment to stop,  you soon realize that until you are dead your nightmarish prison shall continue to strangle your soul until you have become nothing more than an empty shell. All you can do is surrender to the men that keep you chained against your will. After a while the jacket that is strapped around your body to keep your fits of range under control becomes a safe haven. Though the darkness that bleeds over you ensnares your mind for hours on end nothing will bring you comfort. Until you are unbound, your hellish tomb will destroy your reality. Its a cold hard reality at that and if you are going to watch this flick then please bring your own jacket. A little warmth just might give off enough comfort from the shocking horror that shall be unleashed.

Tales from the Darkside: The Movie

D: Ok kids, time for a blast from the past. Does anyone remember this one? Straight from 1990, Tales from the Darkside movie.
It starts out with a seemingly sweet woman who turns out to be a witch getting ready to cook her young victim; a young Matthew Lawrence. To delay her, he begins to read her stories from a book she gave to him. The first one about a young college student who takes his revenge with the help of a old mummy. The second, about a old man who wants a evil cat dead. And the other about a man who witnesses a gruesome murder by a gargoyle like creature and sworn to secrecy.
All cheesy, all not scary, all awesome. I don't know, maybe its the memories of watching this in my early years on this earth that make me love it or what. But all I know is that if you want a movie with actors in their youth such as Christian Slater or even Steve Buscemi this would give you just that. And if you want to see what they did before all this computer stuff for special effects. Yes, this will do quite nicely. And its great for a nice quiet night of sitting in front of the couch with a blanket, soda, and a treat. Good cheesy fun, with a happy ending.

REC 3 Genesis

D: Alright, you know how in that Bridzilla show you got these crazy broads that go insane and scream 'its my day! If anyone ruins it I'll kill them'!! Well ladies, ya'll will think that you had a great wedding compared to what happens in this movie.
The third installment of the awesome spanish movie REC; REC Genesis shows us another area that was infected by the evil possession virus. If you've seen the first two, you know what I'm talking about.
First we see the movie through the traditional way it has been filmed. The magic of mockumetary. Then after chaos ensues, we go to the old traditional film route. Anyways, the bride and groom are separated in the chaos that has taken over their reception. Running from their now rabid guest and watching the others get brutalized, the bride and groom's only goal is to get back to each other and survive.
Fans of this movie line and zombie flicks, will love this. It's a different approach to the whole zombie like virus and adding a more demonic turn to it. I highly recommend it. In fact, if you haven't seen the first two REC movies, SEE THEM! They are epic. And this is a nice addition. Plus, guys who's gal went crazy on their whole wedding plans and such. Look at the bright side...at least she didn't go ballistic and attack her guest with a chainsaw. Then again her guest were not evil zombie demons trying to kill her..or were they?

Silent Hill Revelation 3D

D: Ok kids, get ready for a flick of ultimate disappointment. The sequel we Silent Hill movie fans (and the game) have been waiting for has been high jacked by Hollywood and left for dead. Lets start at the beginning.
Silent Hill Revelation is the continuing story from the last movie, based on the epic video game of the same name. Mr. DeSilva, who has changed his name to Harry Mason and his daughter Heather...ya know what, if you played the third installment of the Silent Hill game you got what the movie is like and even the plot. In fact I'm going straight to my rant.
They ruined it!! If I wanted to see something almost exact to Silent Hill 3, I would just play the game! But nooo, that's just what I paid to watch. And enough with the 3D crap. Its not a new idea and its just a lame excuse to charge us more. Also, bringing in some of the characters from the first movie doesn't completely tie everything together nor does it make sense if they have a meager role.
Conclusion; what made the first one awesome was that it was BASED on the game. It had the feel, the look, even some familar monsters as well as characters. But it had its own story, its own place. The second one WAS the game tied into the first movie with scotch tape. If you still want to see it, be my guest. If you like it and are into the 3D thing, good for you, to each their own. As for me, EPIC FAIL!!! Now if you'll excuse me, I have to console Pyramid Head. Even he can't believe he was part of this. Its ok big guy. Your still number one in my book.

Monster House

N: Be forewarned that if you dare to enter this house that you will experience a grave encounter. An encounter with a unrestful soul that has become vengeful against children that tread on the property. And likewise a crooked old man that wanders the grounds protecting this house from trespassers. So I dare you to cross the threshold and open a door into a spooky haunted house and be guided by a small band of children that are racing against time to discover the true reasons behind this monster house. Though it is filled with scary situations the characters remind me of how I was when I was a child-eager to go trick-or-treating and seeking out ways to get myself into trouble on all hollows eve. this is defiantly a movie for all ages.

Frankenweenie

D: Alright, we are dusting off a classic! A Tim Burton classic. Yes, his old short film from long ago (can't remember the date) is revamped and put on the big screen. Epic!
It's the story of a boy who looses his best friend, Sparky the dog. Devastated by the loss, Victor (that's the boys name..duh) digs his friend up and attempts to bring him back from the dead. Which he does. This sets off a chain of events that would be hilarious, heart warming, and creepy.
Now I saw the original version of this movie. The live action short that was I think great. And it was fun comparing the two. The animation was awesome, the story was awesome...it was all just awesome!! Plus it was in black and white. Now that's a classic horror movie move. Made it even better I think.
Conclusion...SEE IT! And I'm not just saying this because I'm a Tim Burton fan..which I am but that's besides the point. Its really good. Its a creepy heartwarming story that will make you love your pet even more. And may I suggest something? See the first version first. Can't really appreciate this one without seeing its roots. Now if you will excuse me, I'm going to see if I can reanimate this gator head....Its alive!! AND IT BIT ME!!

N: Every boys dream. A personal home science lab and his best friend Sparky. This flick hosts a corky bunch  of characters that bring to life the ultimate classic. Through the course of the movie Victor faces a devastating loss and to reclaim his best friend he turns into a mad scientist. Against all odds he draws upon the power of lighting....but in the course of his obsession a group of strange characters steal Victors blue prints and turn a small quiet town into a town full of ravishing monsters that wreak havoc and now Victor must become the  one to stop the menacing creatures. Its a Tim Burton classic that all should not miss out on. Even though this is an updated version it still holds that artistic art direction and still casts a  beautiful quality.   If you don't like stop animation then I fee that something is dreadfully wrong with you.

Sinister

D: Ladies and Gentle kids! We welcome you to our theater of horrors. This week we bring you a movie of terror, fear, dread, and...hold on let me check my thesaurus...ah! Fright!! We bring you fresh from the theater, Sinister.
A tale of a family who moves into a house where grisly murders took place (tell me something new). The father, a writer is looking for a story, comes across a box filled with old home movies that reveal a most disturbing and gruesome horror. One that will shake his very being and place him and his family in a never ending curse.
Ok, got the jest of it? Alrighty then. now my thoughts. Ahem...I thought this movie was excellent. Yes, yes, the moving into a house were people got murdered is so cliche it makes you think yawn. Been there seen that. But as the movie goes on you learn more and more about the family, the murders that took place, and even when to just say...done! And as things take a more and more sinister turn for the worse (pun intended), you are wondering up till the end 'how the far-fignewton is this going to get resolved'? This movie has it all. Creepy kids, a demon guy, ugly murders, and yes..loud music that make you jump. So I would recommend it. In fact go see it. And if there are teeny boppers there, you will get a good laugh! Cause they jump at anything. Ha! Look at that one! She is hiding her face...you can't hide from him sweety, he is right behind you...BOO!

N: You really want to know what the scary part of this movie is?  Its the similarity between the writer Ellision (played by Ethan Hawk) and myself. I as well tend to get so caught up in my work...locking myself away in the office like Ellison we keep pouring the whisky. Neglect the ones we love and become so obsessive with our work until we are thrown into a hysterical nightmare that turns us against everyone.Though I have been caught in my own hunting's it has not been as bad as what I had just seen in this movie. But enough about my personal reflections. Lets get dive further into the blood soaked horror. Lets settle in. Find a comfortable seat. Make sure you've got your popcorn and be prepared to be confronted the ghostly undead and a masked stranger that is pulling all of the strings. The obsessive writer Ellison stumbles upon another gritty murder story that he must solve in order to reclaim his lost fame as a true crime writer. Thus, after Ellison and his family move into a house once owned by a family that had been murdered he discovers movie reels that  reveal ghastly murders and as he continues to watch the footage connecting the dots; the sinister ghosts rise from the depths to attack Ellison. Yet in the end the true murder is invalid and once again history repeats itself. Shoot I hope I did not give it away. Though I do hope I painted a welcoming picture for you and enticed you to watch this flick.

The Broken

N: Drawing more on a thriller based theme; yet this feature film still falls into the allurement of horror genres. No doubt broken shatters the stage with a twisted hemorrhaging of confusion and compelling fear that strikes at you with a vengeance. Alas as Gina in the aftermath of a car crash must put the pieces back together in order to solve a mystery she finds herself agaisnt everyone that she had ever known. A tangled chain reaction that will leave your heart pumping.

The Mothman Prophecies

D: Gather round children for it is time for another of your creepy Aunt D's tributes to a movie of unexplained events, tragedies, and omens that few would heed or believe in. This time I pay tribute to a movie that is suspenseful and intriguing. I speak of course, of....(pause for dramatic music)..The Mothman Prophecies. A tale of woe, loss, and based on true events! This mind blowing movie centers around the stories of the Mothman. For those who don't know who Mothman is...look it up on the internet.
The movie tells the story of a reporter named John who after the loss of his beloved wife ends up in the small town of West Virgina. There he learns that the people of the small town have been having strange encounters with a creature that surprisingly, his wife had seen right before she died. More and more sightings of the Mothman being are soon reported and even visions of tragedies begin to come true. All this leading up to the reason behind Mothman's purpose for being there and the eerie warning that he brings.
I love this suspenseful movie! It's different. It doesn't even need that many special effects to give you that creepy feeling. If you know about the tales of the Mothman, you yourself will enjoy this wonderful movie. And if you don't, well you will still love it. As you may have guessed, I gots it in me movie collection. Why else would I be paying tribute to it? So watch it! Or Mothman will get youuuuu....not unless I get him with a can of bug spray!

Donnie Darko

I think that every time I watch this flick that it becomes stranger and stranger each time. I feel compelled to understand, but my mind just cant wrap itself around the nightmarish scenarios that Donnie is pushed through. Its as if Donnies soul has swallowed himself and the world around him and plunged everyone and everything into an unimagined agonizing reality. A dark realty that induces my mind down a dark eerie rabbit hole.

A Haunting in Salem

N: This move at first glance has all the scares and thrills, but unfortunately in this ill-gotten haunted house horror tale virtually falls into the category a low budget B flick.
Years later a new family inhabits the house that has been scared with death and violence for so long that vengeful spirits of the dammed roam freely on these grounds and take control of the family. Leading one family member at a time to commit murderous acts until everyone has been virtually hanged...
Bad camera angles make me nauseous and low budget acting and props just make me want to bang my head against the wall. Otherwise in  retrospect this film makes me want to drink kerosene and burn myself inside out.

D: It's the D's turn now to spout out her opinion of this wacky pile of expelled bile. Oops, did I give away my feelings on this so called movie. My apologies.
Yes, as my loverly counterpart said before, this movie centers around a family that move into a old historical house in Salem, they learn that there is a curse on it, yada yada yada, blah blah blah. Ugly ghost witches and rounds of insanity. All leading up to the dramatic yet predictable conclusion that leaves you wishing you hadn't wasted over an hour of your life.
I don't need to give you my complete thoughts and feelings for this movie, cause I already did. But I'm gonna banter on anyways. If you want to waste an hour and thirty minutes of your life seeing bad acting, cruddy camera work and a ridiculous plot line. Then by all means, see this movie. But I have this to say to the movie. In the words of Hans Moleman from the Simpsons...'You took an hour and thirty minutes of my life and I want them baaack! Oh well, I'd just waste them anyways'. Just like the movie..Kazzing!

The Possesion

D: Guys and dolls, strap yourselves in, its time for us to put on our constructive criticism hats. And what movie are we reviewing? Why its a exorcism movie that has just come out in theaters. Its (drum roll please)...The Possession!
Yes sir, based on a true story, this movie pulls us into the lives of a man and his daughters. Oh, the ex is involved too. During the girl's stay at their papa's house, the youngest Emily stumbles upon a neat wooden box at a yard sale and prompts her dad to get it for her. Soon she unleashes the horror that is locked inside the box and becomes the unwilling host to a demonic entity.
Now that you got the plot, here is what I have observed. This movie is...ok. It had very few scary moments. I mean the scenes that you see with the demon version of the daughter were ok. Not thrilling but nice. The girl was nice and creepy in her possession state. And the cool thing was that it wasn't another Catholic exorcism movie. It was a Jewish exorcism movie. Kind of nice to have something different for these types of movies for a change. I mean no offense to the Catholic exorcism types but there are just so many of them that they seem to run together. What was I leading to?..oh! My conclusion...
This movie was just ok. Some good creepy moments and in a way new idea. More of a suspense movie. But I wouldn't wait in line for this one when it comes out onto video. I will say this, the next time I see a horde of moths flying around, I'm gonna calmly turn around....and run!

N: Gosh. 25 dollar movie tickets. 5 dollar small drink. 5 dollar small popcorn. I now question about who is really possessed. Perhaps the movie employees have been brainwashed into charging so much in order to scare our pocket books to death. Oh wait that's not what I'm supposed to be reporting on. I mean that's horrifying, but in regards to the movie we just watched I would have to say that in retrospect it was an ok movie. Though this movie might be based on a true story; I think that whole true story deal has sort of gone state. Though I just happen to see a segment on TV about a real Dibbuk box so I guess some girl had become possessed.
So beware that within this strange box a demonic spirit prays on the innocent soul in order to find a new host. So if you find your child talking to a Dibbuk Box late at night then your going to be in a heap of trouble. And if you want to find out how to solve your possession dilemma then catch this horror/suspense thriller, but maybe not in a theater near you.

Brotherhood Of The Wolf

D: Ok, I don't know if anyone knows this..but the French know how to make a awesome movie! Yes gents and gals, tribute time from The D. And once again its of French orgins.
This one is pure epic. Its based on the real-life killings that happened during the 18th century in France. It was called the Beast of Gevaudan. What? Never heard of it? Pick up a history book people..geez. Anyways, this beast starts a killing spree and two men are called out to the small village to hunt the beast down and destroy it. They are Gregoire de Fronsac who is a royal taxidermist, and Iroquois Indian, Mani. During their stay they learn that there is more to the beast than meets the eye and that the seemingly small peaceful town has a few dark secrets of its own.
This movie has everything! Beyond awesome fight scenes, lots of action, an excellent story, plenty of bloody violence, and of course nudity. I tell you if you haven't seen it you got to! If you have, you rock! I have it on my shelf and love to watch it. Subtitles don't take away the thrill you get when you watch this. All that kung fu and mystery. You know you want to see it. Come on...its French!

Signs

d
N: Don't drink the water. Don't go near the dogs. Don't even think about entering the fields. For you are bound to encounter something unworldly. Something that is not here on this earth to become Facebook friends; but to spread carnage upon the human race. An all star cast-must fight in a do or die battle against these creatures that strike havoc upon the not only the world, but a few small town folk that clearly don't want to believe that anything is taking place. If you need any sort of sign this tribute would be a call to action not to miss out on watching this flick.

The Innkeepers

D: Here we go again people. Back to the haunted hotel scenario. But wait...this one didn't suck. That's right, we have found a movie that tickles our fancy, and in a fun way too.
The Innkeepers, the story of a couple of employees enjoying their last weekend at their beloved hotel before it closes its doors for good. But wait, these two are not your average hotel workers...they are armature ghost hunters! And they are determined to find proof that their hotel is haunted by a sad and fearful bride ghost. But it may prove dire when they discover the hidden horrors of the hotel.
Ok, enough of the summary, time for the criticism. Now, this movie as I said didn't suck. It was funny, scary, and felt more real than most ghost movies. The characters were believable, the dialogue was brilliant, it was great...up until the end. Hey, I said it didn't suck, I didn't say it had no flaws. Past the middle and near the ending, you are left with more questions than answers. I know, I'm a stickler for a good ending and demand a proper ending. But you can't give us a funny but realistic beginning, a good middle, and then drop the ball at the end. It's just not cool dudes. That's right, I said DUDE.
Conclusion; although it had its flawedness in it, I still say it was a good movie. A real Friday night at home with a bowl of popcorn, a sodie pop, and a blanket. But riddle me this fellow horror lovers...why does the gal in these always do what they are not suppose to do??? Has watching these movies taught you nothing ladies?!

N: Your key sir. Enjoy your stay. Yes indeed you shall enjoy a night at the eerier hotel that plays hosts to a few kids just trying to earn a honest buck. But beware not only of the ghosts that haunt the corridors and the creepy basement; the old woman who comes to stay is hellish frithigening. As  retired actress the woman hooked on those little air plane bottles of alcohol sedates herself and uses her bewitching pendulum to try and convince one of the employees the hotel is haunted. Thus,  I warn you that things will go bump in the night at this hotel. Well maybe its the two employees drunk of their asses and without anything better to do than to entertain a few guests why not go on a ghost hunt.

Spiral

Move over Grimm. You've got nothing on this movie which like the so called hit TV series, this movie was also filmed in Portland Oregon-my current home town and though given the fact that my comparison makes no since I thought I would throw in the fact that I am not much of a Grimm fan.
A teeth chattering physiological thriller that dose not paint a pretty picture comes alive with such dictation that you will be left wanting to watch it again. Yet in retrospect this flick portrays a painter that hides behind his shy introverted natures and all at the same time finds a way to lure poor unexpecting woman into his deathly web. Thus these pretty girls that fall madly in love with Mason played by Joel David Moore become victimized by his maddening obsessions. "I don't know. This one's different. This one's special. " Mason says to his best friend. Yes indeed each one is special. How many you ask have been his special subjects of interests. Well you'll have to watch the movie to find out. Its a movie that I always watch once a year in the fall....

The Devil Inside

D: Here we go again. Another mockumentary. Well strap yourselves in puppies and kittens this one is about possession and exorcism. Like that's new. In this fun filled mocker we follow the documentation of a woman who is trying to figure out why her mom went crazy and killed three members of the clergy while they were performing an exorcism on her. Curious, she goes to Rome where her mother is being held in a mental institute and does some research on exorcisms. While visiting her mother she is convinced that the possibility that she is possessed is true and seeks the aid of two priests. They show her a real exorcism and she believes that they maybe able to help her mother. But soon things spin out of hand (as usual) and the cameraman, the two priests, and the girl become victims themselves.
Now, sounds interesting right? Well, we all know the mockumentary of a exorcism is no new thing. Personally, I thought the story was ok. But I think it would of done better as a regular horror movie, not as a mocker. But you know what really tiffs me? It..doesn't..END!! At what I think is the high point of the movie, the freak'n thing just ends, shows a stupid bleep about the case, and rolls to credits. Stupid movies that don't end! Even The Exorcist had an ending. Just a crappy sequel.

N: My thoughts become contorted as I reflect upon this movie. Contorted much like how the possessed characters in this movie had become when the evil inside of them had taken over. Indeed as the demons waged havoc within the victims a hellish nightmare is once again unleashed and this time no on is safe. A seemingly cursed family becomes involved in a triple homicide and like a lot of stories that I have seen countless times; years later a woman-the daughter recounts her tail and tries desperately to seek answers into her mothers sudden killing spree and how an exorcisms had gone so terribly wrong. A few of the scenes got my attention as the clergy in Rome attempted a exorcisms on a young woman and for several moments sheer tear and panic swelled inside me. Yet after such fear subsided I found myself glancing at the clock and wondering if this so called mockumentary was gong to have an official ending. Not likely I thought.

Shaun of the Dead

Zombie movie tribute time! And which do we pay great tribute to? Why that wonderful comedy that only the British can give. I'm talking about the legendary Shaun of the Dead!
This movie when I saw it, made zombie flicks so freak'n funny that I no longer fear a zombie apocalypse. I'm looking forward to it if its as hilarious as this movie makes it out to be.
A normal nobody of a man from England and his lazy counterpart are turned to heroics when their town becomes infested with the walking dead. With blunt instruments aplenty they go and save Shaun's girlfriend (or at that time ex-girlfriend) and of course his mom so they can all go to a safe haven until the whole zombie thing blows over. All this and more happens in this epic comedy.
For me, this is one of the best zombie movies to ever be created. It has everything. Action, violence, romance, and sooo much humer. If your a zombie flick lover, you should, nay, must have this movie and see it over and over again. The people who made it, brilliant! The actors, awesome! Now I know that if I want to wait out a zombie apocalypse, go to a pub, and wait for the whole thing to blow over....while watching this movie.

Sleepy Hollow

N:I must tell you. Please you must be cautious before we enter the town of Sleepy Hollow. I Welcome you of course, but be forewarned that one miss step. One wrong doing, well it  just might cause you to lose your head. Never a good thing as I can only imagine. Who you ask might be the culprit behind these bloody attacks in this small wilderness town? Who indeed I ask the only man by the name of Ichabod Crane that just might have the correct answer. Mr Crane is given the task of determining who this strange masked intruder really is. Yet we draw from observation that our killer thereof is lacking something and while the murder rides a beastly stead; certainly heads shall roll. Ichabod Crane is the only man with enough stomach to fight this sadistic killer and save those that he loves. A moive to savor on that one fantastic night in October of every year....

The Fields

D: So fellow horror movie lovers, its been some time hasn't it? Well, we have returned, and brought this movie with us...regrettably.
We begin with a tale of horror and suspense. Based on true events that will put you in a coma. We are first introduced to a young boy and his messed up life and equally screwed in the head family. He goes to stay with his grandparents after his parents get in a fight and soon is introduced to a world of weird so called scariness and confusion..oh wait that's me.
Ok, where to start on this one? Hmmm...well first off, you don't really know what the newton is going on. You first start to think, 'maybe this is about how messed up his family is'. Or the corn field is haunted or cursed. Nope, nope, and no. This movie takes forever to get to its point. You become more interested in the families history and drama than whatever is going on around them. The only thing keeping you from shutting this thing off is the urge to see if anything is going to happen. And when it finally does, that's it.
Conclusion: long movie, takes forever to get to the point, is confusing, you get lost in it but not in a good way, and everyone in this movie is messed up bad. Personally I think the real horror was the kids life. And this one won a bunch of awards it looks like. I want to make a long boring movie and get awards too!

N: Something horrific hides in the fields. Something unexplainable has been creeping about and in a daring effort a disfuncional family must ward of the evil that resides within the fields; while a young boy must survive against being summoned into the corn fields that hide dark secretes. Elsewhere a methodical scheme a vengeful group of hungry killers takes over a small town leaving a bloody trail of death.Yet I am suspicious that any sort of real evil lurks. That the only real evil lurks within the Red Box. Other than the pretty scenery this movie will leave you kicking and screaming with cries of anguish.

The Ninth Gate

N:Go ahead and open the book. I dare you. Its fine. No one will ever know. Of course I should mention that before you do so that you should watch this movie, which undoubtedly will drag you into a strange mystery. A mystery about a book. But not just any old book for that matter. Yet should I divulge who the true author is? I think not. So please continue. However, be careful. Your being watched. In the world of wheeling and dealing of rare books Corso the book dealer in the movie almost pays for his life as he tries to uncover the true origins of a particular book. One more thing my fine friend. "Some books are dangerous...."

The Hour of the Wolf

Nicholas:  In this gripping dark eerie tale a couple takes what I suppose to be a vacation on a small island. But the man who is also an artist becomes entrapped within a serial nightmare. The artist can not sleep. The allurement of darkness brings out his worst fears. The darkness of night compels his mind to conjure what he would never think off and no amount of candlelight or compassion from his girlfriend will sooth his savaged mind. Eventually he is driven into madness.
To make matters worse an eccentric group of stranger that seem to dabble in the dark occult arts, invite the couple to a castle for an evening of fun. Something sinister is going on, but in this murky undertone Twilight Zone like film the hour upon which darkness smothers everything the artist begins to spiral downwards even further until he his at his end.
While we are pulled into the undertows; the strangers at the castle begin to resemble monsters and pray on the young vacationing couple in a way that will leave you frightened and memorized at the same time.

House

D: Welcome to another scary addition of the married couple with problems and a haunted house. Yeah, like that's new. But don't sell this one short just yet.
We give you the story of a couple on their way to a marriage council session when they end up broken down in the middle of no where. While going off to find help they stumble upon a old bed and breakfast house with creepy occupants. Soon the couple learn that their host's are not what they seem and soon they are running for their lives and told that they need to  make a decision of who will live and who will die by sunrise. Through out the movie we learn a bit of each persons past and the guilt that they carry.
Now, though the idea of a evil house isn't a new idea. But the concept is ok. It wasn't scary but it works. I mean, come on. Whats more freaky then seeing your past mistakes and not being able to do anything about it? How about a creepy sheriff as well as a creepy little girl trying to help you? This house seems to have it all..but a creepy basement. Wait, it has that too.
In a way I would recommend this movie. It's a good one to sit down to on a Friday night with nothing to do. I now wonder, if all a troubled married couple has to do is go to a haunted house and spend the night running for their lives to make their marriage stronger, why don't more shrinks prescribe that? More importantly, why don't people listen to the creepy girl? Listen to the creepy girl. She knows what she is talking about.

N: Beware of this house. Evil lurks inside. Behind the walls. Under the creaking floorboards. Within those that are living in the House. As you know a couple in a broken marriage, take a wrong turn down a lonely road and run into a little car trouble. If that's not enough they must venture through the rain and dark woods to find themselves at a house that has an unpleasant feeling. Donor party for two. Your table is ready. Thus, we are introduced to the Tin man. A sadistic stalker who will make you scream for mercy, while using black magic to hypnotise you with dark visions of your past. He says that your guilt shall be the end of your... Just when you thought it was over-it ain't. It won't ever be over that is.

Forget Me Not

Nicholas: You should run. Go ahead Ill give you a head start. Or else. Or else something bad and terrible and wrong will happen to you. Therefore after what hellish thing has been chasing you finally catches up; shall finish you and most of all shall  kill off your friends and loved ones. I can only imagine that you will forget them after you have watched. Watched them being torn apart and taken down into the abyss of hell. I can only conclude that you shall repress them or what has taken place in your memory, until everyone that you ever loved will seem like they have never even existed. Actually I think we should all forget that this film ever existed and as the mobsters say in the movie's-forget about it...
But lets back up a bit. Or maybe we should flash foreword-until we are confronted with bunch of sexual high school teens about to graduate and all they want to do is party. However, things start to go bad after the party continues at the cemetery. Why not it should be a scream. It's all about fun and games. isn't that right? That's until something unexpected happens and the game turns into something else. So its seems by my account that something happened years and years ago and one teen begins to realise this, but no one will believe her. Now evil rises from the grave, coming back with a vengeance. Each segment throughout the movie will only drag you deeper into a strange mystery...where things are not what they seem to be. Thus, as mentioned sadistic nightmares come alive in the form of humans- or shall I say demons embodied within human form, which  attack in a vengeful killing spree.
Forget me. Forget me not. Its your choice....

Fear Island

Nicholas: What's to fear in this slasher thriller I might ask you as I give you the scoop on this flick? Could it be the fear of the over indulgence of teen sexual appetites, raging through group of teens like ecstasy at a rave. I think so. While the teens take advantage of one another through sexual temptations the group of teens are confronted with a gruesome murder of one of their friends, which of course leads to a rash of new killings that tear apart the group of teens vacationing on the island.
Its a who done it. Was it the butler or the maid I ask as I prepare myself for a movie that will leave me cringing at every turn. Thus, after the fact a detective must solve this bizarre murder spree that has left six teens dead, slaughtered by a revengeful killer. But wait one survivor is found hiding in "fear" on the island. A girl now must recount the twisted tale through her flashbacks. A story that involves betrayal and much more. Though, as she explains to the detective about what had transpired on the island her story begins to not add up.
This movie shall keep you guessing until the very end. A twisted ending that will leave you wanting more. Or at least more questions answered.

The Skeptic

N:From the looks of it this movie just might be about a lawyer named Bryan Becket (Tim Daily) who only focuses within the logical spectrums of life and not the supernatual spectrums. So with that deduction we can then conclude that something of the paranormail might just take place and completely turn Bryan Beckets life apart. Thus, in a series of events that take place after his aunts death; Becket inherits his aunts victorian mansion, which holds some dark family secretes. Secretes that begin to surface after Becket moves into the house and is confronted with the unexplained. Alone. Sleep deprived. Dealing with clients and his estranged wife can lead someone down a dark and unpredictable road. After a short while he begins to witness strange comeings and goings and forces Becket to uncover the true reasons of why he is being haunted.

28 Days Later

N:A tribute to a well deserved zombie flick I must say. Thus, in the beginning one man awakens in a hospital and finds the world in a state of emergency. After a mere 28 days Jim (Cillian Murphy) awakens from coma to find a very different world. Alone. Helpless, and hungry for answers Jim is confronted by a deadly virus. A virus that has surged through the masses, turning everyone into the infected.  Now the world has been left in a state of turmoil and decay. Jim and his new comrads must fight against the hordes of blood thirsty zombies; wanting nothing more than to tear your flesh away and bath in your blood. A must see. Just don't go out at night. Thats when the zombies like to feed.

Dark Portals: The Chronicals of Vidocq

D: Time people to see a movie from across the Atlantic ocean. From the loverly French nation, we give you Dark Portals (or as its called in its native land, Vidocq).
It tis the story of  Detective Vidocq, who disappears after trailing a murderer known only as the Alchemist, who is wearing a mirror like mask. A young man who claims to be the famed detective's biographer sets out to solve the mystery of Vidocq's disapperance and finds that there was more to the case that the detective was working on then anyone could imagine. The trail of evidence leads the young biographer through the streets of Paris during the Revolution, to the secret world of the high class, and the back alleys that only a few dare go. All leading to the exciting conclusion of this dark tale.
Now, aside from having to read in subtitles, this movie was awesome. A nice original idea that keeps your interest like no other. The way that the movie was shot did set me off a little. But it was still awesome despite that. The fighting scenes were action packed, and the idea of the mirror mask and its orgins is something to behold. Bloody, but an interesting idea. I not only recommened it, I also bought it. It's that awesome. Plus you know how I heard of it? A music video that I saw on youtube a few years ago. It's the music video fo the movie itself. Its called Hope by Apocalyptica. Go ahead, check it out and tell me your not interested. Go on do it...

Krull

N: Something strange is tugging at my soul. Ha I know what it is. Memoires. Memories that sweep me into my childhood. Yet its hard to describe these past emotions that I face as I began to watch this movie. But of course if you did not grow up in the 80s or early 90s you would have a hard time understanding how these sorts of movies such as Krull makes you feel. Its like going on a far off journey. A journy back in time.

Its a race against the clock as the Slayers-an evil force hell bent on taking over the galaxy capture the princess and now Krull must rescue the fair and beautiful princess from her evil captures. Thus, be prepared. Be prepared to be fascinated and at the same time let down. This syfy-horror like thriller has all the fantasy that you will need as you go on your journey. Though a little bit like Star Wars-the premiss is A typical of a fantasy movie such as this.

Though as I have said these sorts of movies take me back. Way back when the prop and set designs had all been done by hand and most of the effects had been done with a blue screen. Though while Krull strikes fear into his enemy and fights to save everything he loves we are joined by a band of misfits (a young-middle age Liam Neeson and a very dear Robbie Coltrane best known as Rubeus Hagrid in Harry Potter) and a very likeable cyclopes. Now the army is complete. Just be careful when watching the movie that you don't get trapped in the quicksand.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

D: Four score and seven years ago people, a epic president became a vampire slayer. Yes ladies and dudes, a movie that makes you wish all our presidents were this cool.
In the book turned movie, Abraham Lincoln's life before he became president was one of secrets. Yes, old honest Abe was a vampire slayer. Not only did he help free the slaves he used his axe wielding skills to slice up blood suckers.
This movie was excellent. The action just epic and a awesome way of slaying vampires. The vampires were ugly, teeth filled creatures...only when they were getting ready to feed. Till then, they were as normal looking as any human.
Yes, I would recommend this vampire flick. It's actually fun to piece together what you learned in history about old Abe and the fun vampire side. Why can't all presidents be this cool? And also, where can I go and learn those cool axe moves?

N: Grab your top hats and hang on. Thus, a new must see feature hits the big screen. A affair that entails the secrete life of Abraham Lincoln, but through a new perspective that we have never seen before. Though Mr. Lincoln was known as our president, little did we know that that he had been trained as a vampire hunter. You see for centuries vampires have been lurking in the shadows or should I say have been working along side us without the slightest indication of their presence. Though now the head of the vampire clan Adam (how fitting I should say) wants nothing more than to become part of society. Part of the American dream to say the least, and will stop at nothing to accomplish his devious plans.
Mr. Lincoln takes matters into his own hands wheeling his weapon of choice. His ax becomes his personal persuasion against the blood sucking vampires and an epic battle with matrix like fight senses ensues.

Dracula

D: Ok, I have to do this tribute cause it's just too awesome of a movie. It features the grand daddy of all vampires and the coolest of them all. I'm talking about the epic Dracula!
Made in the 90s, this blood sucking movie stars the forever legendary Gary Oldman as Dracula.  The Transylvanian prince who sells his soul to avenge the death of his beloved. But Oldman isn't the only legend in this. Anthony Hopkins also lends his epic talent to this movie as the vampire butt kicking, Abraham Van Helsing. Oh, it also stars Keanu Reeves and Wynnona Ryder.
With the role of Dracula and Van Helsing perfectly cast, and a beautiful script written, we have a recipe for one of the best vampire movies ever! Through out the movie you feel sorrow for the self cursed Dracula, you also think, 'this guys got to be stopped'. You don't know if you should root for the vampire or the vampire hunters. However, the love story in this is just beautiful. I only like a handful of love stories, but this one is just....lovely. And it's not just cause its a vampire movie either.
Everything about this movie is awesome. I never get tired of it. If you want a vampire love story, put the Twilighty movie away and pop this one in. Cause it is not only a classic story, its a legend in itself. This is sitting on my shelf and it's never going to leave it. Cause as the saying goes, Love Never Dies.

Grave Encounters

N: If you watch this horror-mockumentary as I know you will, then just watch out because you just might encounter or should I say become victimized by strange paranormal ghost or rather demons that have been lurking throughout a psychiatric facility. Thus, a group of eager ghost hunters set off on another journey, dragging their cameras and equipment-they tuck themselves in for an eight hour lock down at this facility in an effort to capture ghosts sightings. Well everything seems normal, but little by little the team is obsessively attacked by the long-dead residents of the facility. Eight hours turn into several days as they become lost in the darkness, followed by these so called demons each member encounters a most grave outcome.

D: Alright then kids, strap yourselves in for another episode of Ghost Adven....oh that's right. This isn't a documentary for TV. This is another mockumentary of people dealing with ghostly business.
It's about a crew that are ghost hunters..like ghost adventures. And they go into old buildings believed to be haunted..like ghost adventures. OK, the similarities are there, but in this mockumentary the Grave Encounters crew go to a psychiatric hospital that is assumed to be haunted. You first get to see how they interact with each other, how they get their interviews, and how much they believe in the ghost that they chase. Spoiler Alert...they don't. That is until they are locked in and they encounter horrors beyond their expectation.
Now the ghost and effects are pretty impressive. Without music to spoil the upcoming shock it's even more impressive. You keep looking for that ghost in the background and the occasional moving door. Now the down side is the ending. After all the ghost encounters and running and screaming, you are sitting their when the ending comes and say 'that's it? Isn't there more'?  Sadly there isn't.
This mockumentary is impressive in the beginning, middle, and near end. And it makes for a nice late night flick with friends. I wouldn't buy it, but its good to see it once. Ghost Adventure fans will see the similarities to it and compare. BUT, if that show had the same encounters as this movie it would be a top rated show, but without the tragic ending. Plus whats up with the haunted insane asylum themes? Ever heard of a mansion people?

Bride of Chucky

N: Never get in the way of Chucky or you wont be so lucky. That's right. You heard what I said and never mind my rhyme. This little creep show is out for revenge. So if I was the smart one and I know that I am I would just walk the other way and not look back in fear of becoming another victim...
Now after about 10 years Chucky arises from his slumber with the help of his longtime-estranged girlfriend Tiffany (Jennifer Tilly.) Though Chucky seems to be happy to be back in the real world his jealous nature overcomes him and he decides to take matters into his own little hands.
Thus, he turns Tiffany into his counterpart, which by the way the scenes of Tiffany as a doll are quite kinky, but you did not hear that from me. Got it? Therefore the two decide to take a little trip down memory lane in an effort to reclaim some property that just might move their souls into human bodies.
Though in a way I liked the movie it just seems like another sequel that has gone rather bland. As we know the previous squeals filmed in the 80s I would say are cult classics, but now after all these years they decide to make a new version in 1998. Then of course we have the Seed of Chucky, which is another matter I wish not to discuss.

D: Chucky!! Who doesn't love that knife wielding doll? Other than people afraid of dolls. Well in this 1998 movie his returns and this time the lovely Jennifer Tilly is with him as his girl Tiffany.
With her help, the killer doll returns and they out to get a new body. But after a disagreement with his devoted girlfriend Tiffany, he ends up taking her out and transferring her soul into a doll. Now in order to get human bodies....wait you read that? Well then lets go to my little final thought.
I remember seeing this as a teen and thought it was so cool. I still do. It maybe goofy and makes a mockery of the old Chucky movies. But its fun. You have some laughs, shed some tears, must mostly laughs. It's one of those movies you watch when you are flipping through the channels and can't find anything. And it's not scary...its fun! Of course some scenes your sitting there and wondering, 'who would do that with dolls'? But you can't deny Chucky's signature laugh. I love it. I want it for my ringtone.

Nothing But Trouble

N: Another classic horror/comedy with all the quirky quips and laughs-come to you direct from a sleepy town with dangerous and crazy police forces and a mean old tempered judge (Dan Aykroyd) that rules the bad lands of Shire Valkenvania. A "nice Town" as Chase put it. Though not my cup of tea I must admit. But oh well. Indeed,  welcome to the town of hell. A town with rules and no rules...because one man for generations has judged those that have passed through the town of Valkenvania. One man that makes his own verdicts. Just don't look out back as many of those that have been caught red handed have been put to death and the skeleton remains tell of offal and agonizing stories.

Again I would like to extend my deepest salutations. May I welcome you to Shier Valkenvanih where your worst nightmares have just  begun. Nay, the fun has just begin I should say!  But you wont be alone so don't worry. You've got an all star cast to keep you safe. Well maybe. Chevy Chase, and lets not forget our very sexy Demi Moore. Otherwise, while these guys keep you busy, lets not forget the to mention the very cool and stylish 1990s cell phones and laptops to keep you connected to a nonexistent network.  Likewise The contraptions and gizmo's at the judges house, are aw an inspiring. I want a slide in my house. That just might be fun.

Though in retrospect this film is more distributing than actually horror related, but its enough to turn your stomach. like something out of  a bad dream that when you awake you find that you are actually still in your nightmare.

The Gate

N: Summoning evil creatures from the depths of hell is all the rage in 1987. So step right up boys and girls and cast your spells. Awaken the little minions that have been yearning to be released, and have been slumbering deep underground for centuries. Indeed, watch out as these little rebel rousers; one by one crawl out of the depths of darkness to wreak havoc upon the world.
The plot will literally drag you down the avenues of a hellish nightmare as the forces of evil give rise to a giant over sized demon. Thus, at every twist and turn the kids-the ones that have summoned the rise evil, are attacked by the menacing demons with relentlessness.  Likewise watch out for giant hands out stretching beneath the bed. Dead corpses tearing out of the walls. Its a fantastic movie, at least for the 80s that is.
The blue screen special effects though fantastic for that era still needed a lot of work. Though the claymation demons and the characterization is so real like that you really cant find that feeling into days demonic movies.
In the grand scheme of things the kids are trying to save the world from ending. So tune in to find out what happens. Just be careful about casting any spells anytime soon. You never know what is lurking just under your feet or in the shadows waiting to be called out...

AAAH! Zombies!!

N: Cutie cuddly zombies that you can take home. Its all the craze these days, so it seems. Yet what a perfect world it would be to be a zombie in fact. The bad part is that these characters in the movie don't know they are zombies...until at some point the truth slips away like the rotting flesh from your body. Well actually between the gnawing and biting. The tearing of flesh and eating of the brains I doubt I would want to come faced with a zombie let alone become one.
So if you want a somewhat light hear-ted comedy about flesh eating zombies that are running a muck through the streets then this is your movie. It has everything as I have mentioned. With a little bit of love and romance mixed in and references to other zombie movies this movie takes the" brains" so to speak.
However, the acting is a little sub par. Slow in some parts as the over talking gets annoying. A little more action would be great. More eating of brains please.

Yellowbrickroad

N: Small town disappearances. Abandonment. An unsolved mystery. Well then, welcome to a small town that holds an eerier Twilight Zone strangeness that will leave you tormented in an estranged confusion. In essence when I should be describing this movie lets say it sort of falls under the "Blair Witch" spectrum of horror movies.
All in all the acting was very in depth. The carnage came out of left field striking so fast that when you react you have to look away as the horror and shock of what has been done ravishes your mind like a hatchet striking the back of your head.
The group that follows the YellowBrickRoad stumble one after another as the wilderness and something else I shall not mention terrorises the group. Only the screams that echo throughout the forest fall deaf and silent.
Some of the cuts and computer generated effects don't really work so well. But what can I say its a low budged B rated film. And you know just sometimes those can be the best. Well not this one I would say. But beware. Good luck finding your way back once you enter the forest.

Phantom Museums

N: Brilliant. Outstanding. Mesmerizing. Orgasmic. A collateral composition of breathtaking cinematic magic produced in effect without reliance of computer technology. A a true architectural design of story telling that casts a horrifying reality upon us. Such masterful use of puppetry and an imaginative use of found materials create a dynamic relationship of inspiring and aw struck dramas. As we watch the drama unfold upon the stage we become so hypnotic that you cant stop watching.
With the use of stop motion animation strange doll like figures and a man are brought to life to exist in unnatural surroundings. Each character within these 13 short-timeless films endure an agonizing  existence that only can be found within the labyrinths of our repressed mind. Though while we watch these puppets come alive throughout the mysterious  fantasy's, we are also introduced to actors that are placed within the enigmatic sets that bring even greater depth to the uncanny stories.
Indeed, I have loved stop motion since I was younger. I even had a chance on several occasions to do some small stop motion movies. Yet I still can not believe how exceptional these short films are, which were produced by the Quay Brothers; as they take you on a thrilling journey that entraps you in the souls of the characters that come alive.

A few of my favorite shorts: Street of Crocodiles, Stille Nacht III

Beneath The Darkness

N: You know what you will find beneath the darkness? Only darkness and nothing more. Poor Denis Quaid. What have you gotten yourself into? Question after question rattles around in my mind as I try and find any good parts in this movie that would be worth talking about. Its another horror movie where a devious mortician who has control of the town is hiding a very dark and disturbing secrete. It seems that he can't let go of the past and is reliving it every night behind closed doors. Actually, perhaps its harder than you think to let go of the past? In fact I know someone that lost her mother about four years ago and they keep voice message on the answering machine. Whats disturbing is that they play the message everyday. Everyday for the last four years. so in essence the main character replays his once cherished life with his once living bride. Oops did I reveal the secrete?
Yet as this film continues and  people continue to get murdered, I find myself watching the clock. Thus, by the end of this stale movie I just want to forget what I had seen and find my own darkness to sulk in.

From Dusk Till Dawn

N: As gun totting killers kick off this flick with a shootout and fire-bombing a store, things just keep getting interesting when two brothers on the run take a few people hostage along the way and head to the Mexican boarder where paradise awaits them.

I was defiantly enticed by the pole dancing babes that keep burning up the stage at the bar, but it dose not get scorching hot until after a few brisk confrontations break out; something that no one expected strikes like a King Cobra slithering at your feet. Thus, a blast of gunfire spills onto the silver screen while an orgy socked bloodbath and flesh eating vampires arise one by one to stalk the remaining folks inside the bar.

Silent Hill

It's tribute time from the D! And what am I paying tribute to? Why one of the coolest adaptations from game to movie ever! I'm talking about the movie Silent Hill.
Now for those of you who don't know about the games listen. This movie is based off of the popular komani game Silent Hill series. In the movie, a mother and daughter go to the abandoned town Silent Hill to solve the mystery of the daughters nightmares and why she calls out the towns name in her sleep. As they near the town they get into a wreck and the daughter goes missing. The mother goes out to find her in the town and is soon introduced to the nightmare that has swallowed the small town.
As a fan of this epic game, its hard not to compare movie and game. But personally I think they did a great job. Especially with the monsters that roam the streets of the town. I think they did a awesome job bringing the grand daddy monster Pyramid head to life. Ahh you beautiful creature. I still cheer out his name whenever I watch this movie and he comes onto screen.
The story is good, the casting is awesome, there is a perfect amount of gore to satisfy the creepiest creep. All in all, I will never get tire of this movie. It is on my shelf and it will stay there. See it! See the weirdness that is Silent Hill!

Waxworks

N: Oh the feeling of a 1980s horror film. It begins with a midnight invitations extended by a stranger. Its liked picking up a hitchhiker or letting a stranger into our house. Trouble is bound to happen. A group of teenagers take part in accepting an invite from this stranger and enter a museum where private parties are all the scream. It becomes very tormenting for me to wach as the kids one by one began to fall pray to the creatures of the museum. But wait these creatures are made of wax. How is it possible I ask myself? Wait and you shall find out....
While this creepy low budget film and early special effects take hold, the true meaning of the museum is discovered and in an epic, but rather confusing battle between the creatures and the remaining teenagers ensue.
It was a heart warming film between the slicing and splatters of blood to say the last. At least the ending was charming when the two remaining teenagers fell in love.

The Ward

N: It would not be a horror flick without a very sexy girl to play a troubled teenager that has been locked away inside an aging ward. It seems that in all cases that all asylums tend to be places governed by ghosts and dark secretes. Kristen is one that has a very dark secret and while she solves her mental issues she becomes torn between the hunting's and the other patients on the ward. People began to disappear. Vanishing into the eerier bowls of the asylum. Yet as we follow along, towards the ending a shocking revelations is reveled and we are left with a sort of shell sock that never goes away. I wish it could. I wish it could....
D: Ahhh, the triumphant return to the crazy house. What more could you want? How about a tale about a luney girl who is admitted to the crazy asylum that is haunted and the said ghost starts a killing spree. All these fun things can be yours in this movie, plus a bonus people! An ending that leaves you asking..."what the french toast?? That's it?!"
This lovely movie starts off with a interesting beginning and then a nice twist, but the ending just leaves you wondering what was the point? Some of the scenes are cool due to awesome camera editing and little to some gore...but the ending, always the ending! Make it stop! I need a hug...

Giallo

N: I loved Adrien Brody in the "Jacket," but I am somewhat unsure about this films performance. Shot in 2009 this movie is more of a thriller than a horror flick. A serial killer with a vengeance takes his madness out on fair and pretty girls with methodical deviance. Like all serial killers this one likes to kidnap these sexy wemon and ravages them with whatever instrument of torture he can wheel. This modern horror thriller is sort of intriguing in the beginning, but flat lines at the end.

Transylvania 6-5000

N: Beware of Frankenstein and the other monsters when you go to Transylvania. You just might end up like the two reporters in the movie that take an assignment and find themselves being chased by what you would deem as the cult classic of horror monsters. The quips of humor throughout the movie are very typical of a 1985 film, but while I was scared for these fellow reporters the comical interactions between the two reportors was worth my time. Its always fantastic to see some of the old actors on the silver screen.
