The Traveler

N: The traveler makes me feel like I'm lost in an abandoned town that has no real explanation of being so. Its another revenge-lets kill everyone that was involved sort of movie. Little spooky. Not really compelling. And poor Mr. Kilmer for showing us a side of acting that only makes you a B graded actor.

Evil Dead 2

N: Always a great flick when stop motion monsters turn into horrifying-spooky creatures that do no relent at any point to try and suck you into the world of hell. But actually Ash finds himself in the middle of an evil that is so relenting that when he is not possessed others in the group take form and try and strike ash down. Extra blood. Extra guts, and extra craziness makes for a great flick.

Ghost of Goldfield

D: Ok, we all know the story of the Goldfield Hotel right? I mean, folks who have seen the documentary of Ghost Adventures when they investigated it should have a clue at least.
This movie takes artistic license and creates a story based on the infamous hotels dark story of Elizabeth. The working gal who was kept prisoner by the owner of the hotel. A film crew goes out to the hotel to investigate the ghost of Elizabeth who resides there. They discover terrifying secrets as well as the fact, that most of them are useless.
Seriously, the characters that are a part of this fictional film crew are the last people that you want on your team. One of them is a kleptomaniac and screams at her own shadow. She isn't even part of the crew. She is just the audio guys girlfriend. The only things that she is good for, is to distract the ghost, while you get away. The other is a drunk frat boy who's main contribute to the team is the booze. Plus you got horrible acting done by the main gal. Since this is based on a true story, I would think that they would do some form of justice for poor Elizabeth. But no. If anything all they did was create a typical C class movie with 'College' students and put them in a situation they have no business in, and leave no closure as to the reason for the haunting to continue. Take my advice, stick with the documentary that Ghost Adventures made. Its more entertaining and scary. Plus, there are no bad death scenes caused by ghosts in it.

N: Well I have enjoyed the historical aspects of the Goldfield Hotel, but half way through this flick I was ready to find a room and just plain take a nap. So exhausting watching these teenage brats barge around these hotel in an effort to catch a haunting. First the main chick has not affiliation with the Discovery Channel, or she would be more professional. Some of the scenes that showed us the past and what took place far more interesting then watching what the kids had been doing. Another low-grade flick that did not meet the mark.

HP Lovecraft's The Tomb

N: Hug. Its what I expected. Another tragic tribute to a great writer. This flick was flawed in every way imaginable. Character development was horrible and though some of the props seemed cool the total lack of realism was horrifying. In fact the fake spider that was shown on the desk I own. Then what was the shots of the masked man on a horse all about?

Awake

N: Why did I watch this movie I ask myself. Oh yes indeed. Jessica Alba was one of the leading stars and I just had to catch a glimpse, but overall was disappointed in this flick. The concept was good and the characterization was ok, but it just never got my pulse going. Well maybe just a little as I have had less than a dozen operations over my life time and being in the operating room causes such suffering that watching this brought back some old haunting memories.

Battledogs

N: What the jeepers? An altered state of mind takes over, then your body is consumed with some virus that turns you into a carnivores werewolf. But nevertheless, the city becomes a breeding ground and a few fight to save the city from being swept away. However, this flick makes me shutter with convulsions because it is so badly made that I want to gouge my eyes balls out.

D: Ok, we have all seen tons and tons of apocalyptic movies that have zombies and such. But how about one that has werewolves? That sounds pretty refreshing right? Deadly puppies out to kill us all. Unfortunately, that concept might not be that great depending on who is the one to create it.
In this flea bitten cinematic, New York city is soon introduce to a Lycan virus that spreads when ever someone survives an attack from one of these bad doggies they turn instantly. Soon these individuals are quarantined and a cure is being hunted down by two teams; one wanting to save their fair city and the world, the other wanting to use the infected people as a form of weapon and keeping the antivirus as insurance. Soon the struggle to contain the dog virus begins. And so does my critique for this movie.
I think the idea behind this could of been well played, if it wasn't butchered. The movie did have some potential, but it was destroyed by crappy computer generated werewolves, characters that were not that memorable (except the bad guy), and countless other concepts that could of been worked out better. But mostly, it was the cruddy werewolves that helped to destroy this. Granted there was much action and werewolf gore, but that hardly makes up for everything else. And those werewolves, how much more fake can you get? Is there any good werewolf movies out there, other than American Werewolf? Bad doggie! Bad! Your not suppose to suck.

The Possession of David O'Reilly

N: A possession of the mot extreme or not. Dark creatures take form praying on a man named David. But his friends are not sure that these creatures really exist and must play along with David emotional terror. I felt that this flick was a little distracting. Did not explain why these creatures which where stalking David and why a woman showed up in the house that appeared latter on to be a ghost.

D: Huh? That's all I got for my opening statement at this time.
So this couples friend David, arrives at their house at three in the morning. He says that he had found out his girlfriend has been cheating on him. So they let him stay. After he arrives. His behavior is seen to be a bit paranoid. He claims that he is being chased by what appears to be demons. Soon his friends are dragged into his nightmare and all sorts of running and screaming breaks loose.
I feel so dizzy right now. This film lacked a form of camera style. It switched from what I guess you would call, regular camera work, to point of view of randomly selected character. You got confused just watching the shaky camera work. And if that wasn't enough, the characters made every wrong decision imaginable. Also you have so many questions during, and after the movie. Like, why are these monsters after the man? And why are they after both David, and suddenly go after his friends? What did he do to provoke them to wanting to tear him a new one? Also, why would you let someone who is acting crazy, welding a butcher knife screaming, 'their going to get me!', into your house and allow him to stay? Wouldn't you try to get him help or ask him to leave? Word of advice, if your friend is acting crazed and claims that a horde of demons are after them...tell them to leave and take their freak show with them. Its called a priest people!

Tucker & Dale VS. Evil

N: What a mind blowing hilarious, but gruesome horror flick. When you team up a couple of bashful hillbillies and a group of stupid college kids you get a double dose of raw carnage. But the question remains who of these two groups becomes the most evil?

D: I can't remember the last time a comedy horror movie, made me laugh this freaking hard! This movie goes to show, you can't judge a book by its cover...even if it looks menacing and unintelligent.
We are first introduced to a group of city kids that go to the great outdoors in the mountains. There they run into Tucker and Dale. Two hillbilly rednecks who have just purchased their dream vacation home.  Dale and Tucker get mistaken for psychotic murderers by the small group and series of hilarious cliché moments happen.
This was awesome! I have got to give a shout out to my friend  for this recommendation. It was a genius way to show how appearances are not always what they seem. And sometimes, them rednecks are just big lovable bears. NOT chainsaw welding loons. Ok, sometimes they are.

Pumpkin Head II: Bloodwings

N: Arising yet again to terrorize a small town after a curse is born; cast from a spell by a group of teenagers awaken Pumpkin Head. To reenact revenge this evil creature born from hell shall stalk its pray in the dark of night to tear apart the limbs of its victims.

D: You can't have a awesome movie, without a mediocre sequel. My lovely Lycans and Banshees, Pumpkin Head returns!
In this sequel, we witness the murder of a young deformed boy named Tommy. About three decades later, a group of teens (go figure) find the shack of the old woman who took care of him. They then find the spell that calls Pumpkin Head. Needless to say, all manner of bloody vengeance breaks loose.
When compared to the first movie, the second installment, is more of a cheap filling. I mean, the acting was overly dramatic and not that convincing. The best scenes were the flashbacks and Pumpkin Head killing his targets. Its more of a, 'lets just watch something, I'm bored', type of movie. Yet one thing remains true...Pumpkin Head still rocks!

Death Becomes Her

N: What a great movie! Always has been a favorite of mine. Has a all star line up and the characters bring this funny, but morbid movie alive. Who knew that eternity would be so hectic. I would assume immortality never had its flaws, but it seems that decay comes with the what I say as a curse.

D: A blast from the 90s! This movie shows that when you want to stay young and pretty forever, it comes with a price.
Two rival 'friends', an up and coming writer, and a actress, take their squabbling to a whole new level. When Madeline (Meryl Streep) and Helen (Goldie Hawn) both acquire a potion that keeps them young. However, they fail to heed the warning of the woman who gives them the potion, about 'taking care of their bodies'. Soon, they discover that staying young, isn't as easy as it seems.
A funny story! Granted that its not really scary. Its more of a dark comedy. Bruce Willis plays a fantastic role of the man who is stuck in the middle of the rivalry. And Streep and Hawn are just crazy! I mean, I know that when chicks have a rival, they can be mean. But dang! Beware these insane banshees.

Happy Halloween!!

Boys and girls its that time of the year. The time when we let our inner creepy creature out and go wild! After a nice thrill of getting candy, combing cemetery's for the undead, and the undeniable laugh and random scares at the haunted house attractions, sometimes its nice to sit at home and enjoy a movie that shares the spirit of this time of year. Here on Pulse, we have a few selected movies that we feel share in that spirit. So here it is Lycans and Banshees...The Pulse Halloween Movie Selection!

-The Nightmare Before Christmas
-The Addams Family
-Trick r Treat
-Night of the Living Dead (Original and Remake)
-Halloween (Original Version)
-Bram Stokers Dracula
-Don't Be Afraid of the Dark
-Grave Encounters 1&2
-Elvira; Mistress of the Dark
-Elvira's Haunted Hills
-Nightmare on Elm Street
-REC
-PumpkinHead
-Frankenweenie
-From Dusk Till Dawn

-Transylvania 6-5000
-The Frighteners

-Nothing But Trouble
Now these are just some of many great movies to watch on this, the spookiest time of the year. But these seem to make this time of the year extra special. These are not in any order. I know, Nightmare Before Christmas is on top, but who doesn't think of this movie when Halloween comes up? Now if you know any other horror movies that are not on the list that make this time of year great, go ahead and put them down in the commet section, and why they are awesome to you. Who knows, we may have seen it and over looked it. Or, we haven't and you just suggested a great horror movie for us to check out. Anyways, before this gets any longer....
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!!

Misery

N: Every writers nightmare. A devoted fan takes you in to nurse you back to health from a horrific accident only then do you realize that your number one fan is a hell-bent psychopath.  While you try and gain control of this nightmare it all becomes clear that this woman is more than tormented.

D: See, this is why people who obsess over various famous people scare the crap out of me!
After finishing his latest story, Paul sets out for home when he gets caught in a snow storm and crashes his car. He is saved by Anne, who claims to be his number one fan. Soon he will be wishing that he was still in that car when he learns that his number one fan is a lunatic!
Based on the book by the legendary Stephen King, this movie makes you fear the nice sweet lady next door. She could be a crazed killer who is friendly one minute and suddenly goes into homicidal rages. Its a great movie to watch. Kathy Bates gives a awesome performance. And the lines, though delivered in a aggressive way, are funny. You can't help but laugh when she says things like, 'you dirty birdy', or 'he didn't get out of the cockadoodie car'! I bet Paul was thinking, 'I wish that you left me in the cockadoodie car'.....

The Last Will and Testament of Rosalind Leigh

N: Over dramatic and has no real conclusion. After reflecting on this flick I was unable to really understand its true meaning.  Indeed it was a verse in good VS evil; Rosalind Leigh narrating with a message for her son who endures a hellish night against a demonic-like beast, strange people visiting the house and creepy angles.

D: Huh? What the pitchfork did I just watch? I can't tell if it was a movie or Antiques Road Show.
A young man returns to his hometown after his mother dies. Roslaind seems to speak from beyond the grave, chattering away about her beliefs, her and her sons estrange relationship, and other things. Weird things begin to happen to the son that give clues as to why he left home in the first place as well as other things that don't even tie together.
I was so confused while watching this. The woman's house looked like a antique shop. And the son seemed to have some major issues that just were not that well explained. Plus you get so bored while the camera panned around the house showing all the trinkets that the woman had. I had the urge to guess how much each antique was. The creepy angel statue is $1000! Am I right?...

The Burbs

N: An electric-terrifying and hilarious film that involves a group of neighbors suspicious of a family that has just moved into the neighborhood. Its a fantastic cast. Tom Hanks, and even our very own Carrie Fisher. This 1989 film will leave you wanting to watch it again and again.

D: A film from the 80's, with some of the most memorable star's.
I know my counterpart has informed you of the story plot. But I will give a few more bits.
Now when a new family moves into the neighborhood, they keep to themselves. This does not go over with the suburban neighborhood as they are always up in each others business. When one of the neighbors disappears, Tom Hanks character and his friends will stop at nothing to prove that the strange new family is responsible. Time for my constructive criticism.
Why don't we have more movies like this?? Seriously people. Ok, it may not have been the scariest movie made. But it makes up for that with a great script and quirky characters. I so wish that there was more of this sort of creative writing. And its so quotable. My favorite is, 'I've been blown up! Take me to the hospital'!

The Ruins

N: Another enchanting flick where a group dares to enter sacred grounds, and decide to cross the threshold of the ruins where you shall be condemned to death by something lurking in the depths of these sacred ruins.

Corpse Bride

D: Now who doesn't love a wedding? The cake, the gowns, the romance. What if the bride was actually a dead beauty?
In this stop motion movie by the grand Tim Burton, young Victor is arranged to marry the sweet Victoria. While out practicing his vows, he accidentally recites them to the Corpse Bride, Emily. She takes him from his dreary land of the living, to the colorful spirited land of the dead.
Now, I will admit that this is not the strongest of Burtons films. In fact I found some of the songs kind of pointless and tawdry. However, you can forgive that because of the story. Its a beautiful story and actually touches your heart in a way. You can feel the blooming love between Victor and Victoria, and you pity the Corpse Bride Emily for her tragic fate. This is a movie that you can sit down, wrapped in a blanket with hot cocoa and enjoy. I tell you though, I didn't know what I wanted for my wedding dress. Most girls do, but not me. However, I know now that I want what that Corpse Bride was wearing! So cute.

The Lost Boys

There was a time, not long ago. When vampires didn't sparkle and stalk teenage girls. They were bad a$$, motorcycle riding, awesomeness.
The Lost Boys is a movie from the 80s starring the two Cory's and even Kiefer Sutherland who is the big bad leader of the vampires. Sammy and his bother Michael move with their mother to Santa Carla to begin anew. Soon they are thrown into a world of blood and fangs when Michael gets involved with a motorcycle group that turns out to be vampires. Only by teaming up with the vampire hunting Frog brothers can they put an end to the vampires blood feast.
This is a movie that every single vampire loving person needs to see AND own. The music is awesome, the vampires are awesome, its just AWESOME!! This is one of many of my favorite vampire films. I suggest you see this. This makes any other vampires look like whinny little babies. Plus a young Kiefer Sutherland...nice.

The Craft

Oh spells man. What teenage gal from the 90s doesn't remember watching this?
Four high school outcasts discover the power in witchcraft when they form a coven. All four gaining what they want. Only soon, as many should know, such power comes with a price. And only some can handle such magic with care.
I just love this movie. I remember watching it with my girlfriends and in a way, being able to relate to the pain that the four girls go through. Such as the bullying, criticism, and other things that come with the horrors of high school.
This is a movie everyone should see. Its good for a girls movie night. Does anyone remember playing 'Light as a feather, stiff as a board'? I did that in elementary school. Who would of thought you are suppose to levitate? I think we were playing it wrong.

The Strangers

N: Its strange days or nights for that matter as a young couple enjoying life get a disturbing involvement of a game of cat and mouse. Three masked kids toy with the couple and as these strangers escalate the night becomes a blood bath of chaos. A drama filled blood chilling flick and those masks just spook the hell out of me.

Pumkin Head

D: Oh my goose bumps man. A classic horror movie with little to no computer effects, and a powerful story of the pain and price of vengeance.
Pumpkinhead is the ultimate story of a small town man named Harley, who suffers a terrible loss by a group of city folk. Desperate, Harley seeks out the aid of a old witch who summons the demon of vengeance Pumpkinhead. The task for this demon is simple; hunt down the group and kill them. But this comes at a terrible price.
This movie is a gem. Proof that you don't need all this computer stuff to tell a great story. I will admit that its not the scariest movie out there. But the story and the awesome effect that is Pumkinhead...beautiful.

N: If marked for misdeeds Pumpkin head shall hunt you down until the very last monument you take your last breathe. I agree with D. I still enjoy the older films without al of the CGI effects. Its far more effecting when the creature looks and acts real. Decadently one to watch this October.

In Search of Lovecraft

N:  As noted I am a Lovecraft fan, but as usual I have been disappointed thus far in the movies that have been based on the writings of Lovecraft. This film failed in every since. Character development  and I felt like it was some high school 5th grader project.
In this flick we dive into a historical involvement as a young reporter seeks to uncover a once in a life time story. Yet in her journey Rebecca gets more than she bargained for.
I got more than I bargained for in this film, and wish I could take visual footage of this film and erase it from my mind.

The Devil's Advocate

N: Who knew that climbing the corporate ladder could be lead you right into the lions den, or for that matter into the devils own caged backyard. In this thrilling flick a young lawyer prowling for instant fame and glory is lured into a firms grasp by a mysterious man that is a great advocate for spawning evil. I have always enjoyed watching this flick,  as the Devil spins his delicate web.

Cabin Fever

N: A film seems to me more horrifying when it could actually be true. A group of venturous teens, gather for a short vacation that leads to disastrous outcomes. Imagine your skin slothing off your body and for some reason your blood begins to pour from your pores. Now its only time as each group member faces certain death.
On a personal note I wonder if I should dear to watch Cabin Fever II...if its even worth putting myself through another feverish nightmare?

Super 8

N: First and foremost Super 8 film shall never die. Had a blast when I was younger doing stop motion films, and to say the least this flick packed a punch. Its about to turn bad as a group of young film makers set off to shoot a film when all hell breaks loose. While a town become under attack by a visitor the military takes control of a small town. Now the armature film makers must stop at nothing to protect everyone and solve the mystery of this alien invader.

Rosewood Lane

N: hoping for a bloody-twisted flick this movie which still confounds my mind left me rather displeased. In this thriller a late night radio host Sonny Blake confronts her demons by moving back into her childhood home. But I get rather confused when a paperboy emerges and becomes the prime suspect in stalking Sonny. For the entire length of this film we go around and around with no real intentions of actually discovering why everyone is afraid of the paperboy nor do we resolve Sonny's past relationships with her father.

D: What is this? What did I just watch? I was hoping for something nice and eerie. Not confusing and time wasting.
Here is the short version: Girl moves into old house, girl is tormented by sinister paperboy. The end.
First question; why was this made? For real people. This movie made no sense. No explanation as to why paperboy is public enemy #1, or why he feels the need to stalk the chick in this flick. Hee hee, I made a rhyme. If you would like to waste time and brain cells, watch this movie. You are better off watching the trailer cause even if you watch this, you still won't know what happened. Oh, you wanna hear something funny/stupid? I know that you cant judge a book, or DVD by its cover. But I actually thought this was a werewolf movie. I mean seriously look at that cover. Does it not make you think Lycan?

Hemlock Grove

Season One:

N: Looking for a new place to relocate? Well I've got just the town that might pull your heartstrings, but this quant town had a darker devious side that will thrust you into an ongoing battle between two families. Even though this is a Netflix original I was very well pleased with the acting and set locations of this horror flic. Be prepared as each twisted episode will draw you deeper into secretes that at the end will want you thirsting for more.

D: So, I have to admit that this is one werewolf story that I find interesting. Its got it all. Gypsies, blood, wolves, magic, monsters, even vampires.
So this mini series is based off the book Hemlock Grove and tells the story of Peter and his friend Roman. One a gypsy, the other a rich boy. These two team up to figure out who, or what is killing off the horny teens of the city. While Peter is a main suspect, he swears that he has nothing to do with the killings. Even though he is, SPOILER ALERT, a werewolf himself.
This series introduces you to a string of characters that are harboring their own secrets, adding to the bloody drama. It's really a good series to watch. I mean, you don't come across many decent werewolf movies or series with a few exceptions. Plus the transformation scene from human to werewolf...simply gorgeous! Everyone howl, ARROOOOOOOO!!!

Queen of the Damned

N: I had first seen this movie when it had come out on video, but had never really been drawn to this flick, as it had always lacked charm and never fully told an appropriate story. Years later I decided to watch the film again (before we decided to turn it in for some cash) and I still thought it was a total disaster. D pointed out that the book is much better and even better to read the series written by Anne Rice. Thus, I have started reading Interview With The Vampire and shall continue reading through the rest of the series. For the most part I was drawn into the vampire sort of lifestyle that Lestat portrayed in the movie. But lost interest half way through, after Queen of the Damned appeared.

Dylan Dog

N:Looking for body parts? Well an underground market thrives in a seedy undead world. Zombies that have a little more brains than usual not only thirst for brains, but must replenish decaying body parts. But wait this movie is just not only about Zombies, but a man that fights evil. Dylan must combat this evil through his lucrative private eye business. All in all a very entertaining flick that is worth watching, and if you enjoy reading than check out the comic based on this sleuth.

Fascination

N: A rather bizarre turn of events leads a crook, desperate to escape his once fellows only to find himself held up in a castle. Stranger still the castle is not deserted, but becomes a pulse inducing ride of sex and blood thirsty woman. Are these woman mere vampires searching the night for pray, and incidentally has caught this crook in the delicate webs of Fascination.

Paranormal Asylum

D: Just because a movie title includes the words Paranormal, doesn't mean that it's going to be good. This movie is proof of that.
Introducing two film dudes who are working on a amateur documentary, and the fiancé who wishes to tag along. Their project is about the infamous Typhoid Mary. The cook who was a carrier of the disease yet didn't display any symptoms and made a lot of people sick. Pick up a history book and read it for yourself. Anywho, these three ding bats are hoping to get the facts behind Mary's history but instead get caught up in a haunting that just doesn't make since. And history is twisted for someone's sick pleasure.
Not only is history been taken a piss on, but also this movie. I mean, come on people. The lines were terrible, the haunting made no sense, and when certain things need explaining, you're left on your own to figure it out. Waste of the 88 minutes that this movie was. And finally, people lets get this out once and for all...Séances are BAD! You don't know what is going to come through. And when its something evil, you got only yourself to blame. Put the candles and the Ouija board down!
N: A brain schemed idea  triggers a deadly path of destruction for a small group of friends. Though I must warn you that having fancy equipment will not save you from paranormal activity nor will stupid girls who think they can hold a séance. Though I always enjoy abandoned buildings and dark forests-the asylum in this flic was not that scary and the true story of Typhoid Mary was really never told

Love Sick Love

D: Ok, men everywhere. You know how us chicks are crazy? I'll be the first to admit that fact. But this chick, is 100% certifiable.
This is a twisted tale of a man named  Norman who is involved with a obviously needy gal named Dori. She talks him into going to her home out in the woods for a week. When there, all kinds of madness ensues. And its not just her, the entire family is in on it.
For the record, and ya'll better listen. Just because the girl is hot...doesn't mean she isn't crazy! I mean, if your going to play 'the game', you'd better have a bail out plan, cause this movie proves that if you are just not looking for a relationship, and you are hooking up with a  chick that thinks you are serious, heed the warning of this movie. Before you go out with her on a weekend trip, tell her the truth, and run! Run the other way and don't look back. If she tries to catch you, keep running. Running is your friend. The pissed off axe wielding manic girl, isn't.

N: This was quite an elegant physiological thriller with a deep disbursing quality that left me wanting more, but also made me feel like I also had been victimized by this love sick woman. To most it would seem like a normal romance that turn into a diabolical madness with  murderous intentions. Norman must play his cards right and though he tries the family that inhabits the house find every way to keep him from leaving. If you don't leave soon then you shall break her heart and pay the price as vengeance can come with a swift and deadly collision.

A Dead Calling

D: Ok, don't let the movie cover or the cheesy name fool you. This movie leaves you wondering...that's it. It just leaves you wondering. Let me set the stage. And yes, spoiler alert!
A news lady's life is set off track when her fiancé is killed during a home invasion. She goes home to her family to morn and to get on with her life. She goes back to work, only to be assigned to investigate a house that is the scene of a sadistic murder. And you guessed it, it has ghosts. Surprise!
This movie looks like it was done by some senior film student. It was all shaking in the beginning and the angles didn't seem to make sense. The acting seemed forced, the storyline was predictable, various visual effects were amateur at best, the list goes on and on. It had potential, but it belly flopped, hard. And just to give you a major spoiler alert...the killer of the fiancé, they never said if they found him! Why have something like that in the plot if they are not going to work with it?! Its a small gap but still, annoying. End of opinion. Next!

N: Lets investigate and take a closer inspection of this flic. Though I might add that I am in no way a true reporter like the main character Rachel who has become a rather good news reporter finds herself is faced with a life altering situation. Rachel must discover her true identity and rekindle her new life, which leads her to an abandoned house. A haunted house no less. As the film continued I became less interested in this haunted house as it became clear that we would never learn the true reasons of why this house became haunted. We would never fully gain an understanding of why the killer became such a sadistic murder and other than the raw low budget camera shots I asked myself why I had even bothered.

Insidious Chapter2

N: The family have moved on, but soon its realized that the hunting's have not stopped and have only gotten worse. A new chapter is written in this thrilling horror flick that shall conjure past spirits into causing havoc upon his family
It seems that Josh is till quite possessed by an evil malevolent spirit that has an obsession of murder. In retrospect this horror flick was by far the best sequel that I have seen in awhile. The same cast brings further dynamics and soon the real reasons for these Insidious-demonic hunting's will be unveiled.

D: First, I want to give a late shout out to the day Friday the 13th. May it feed our superstitious fears, and give us a reason to watch a movie with a hockey masked killer. Now onto our feature presentation!
Ever wonder what happened to the family after the first installment of the awesome movie Insidious? Well wonder no more. This movie picks up where the last movie left off. Now since my counterpart has already informed you of its plot line, I shall continue on to my valued opinion...HA! Valued opinion. I just ramble.
This was wonderfully put together. Usually when a sequel is made it isn't worth the price of the over priced tickets. They usually piece it together with scotch tape and say, 'done'! This one however, is totally worth it. It has a wonderful blend of not only some memorable creepy moments, but some good laughs too. If weird things start going on around my house, I am going to just ignore it. I can't hear you, I can't see you, you are not freaking me out, la la la la la....

Crooked House

N: Old tales erupting in fantastical forms, thus lay claim to a man that discovers an ancient door knocker. Through a series of short haunting-spooky tales we discover a horrifying truth that evil shall thrive age after age. Although this flick was enticing and dramatic the ending left me with questions. Questions that may never be answered.

D: Enter a world children of dark magic, dark secrets, and  a sinister door knocker that creeps the crap out of me!
My cute partner has already bright to light the main storyline, so I'm going to go on to my rant and rave section.
Although some of the effects were ok, they were also pretty cheesy. Though I think that the point was not to inflict fear through gory scenes and such. But to draw up the curiosity of the viewer and suspense. The stories were interesting, and adds to the fact that the house was cursed...but the best and creepiest part of the whole movie was at the last fifteen minutes of it. I'm still freaking out! Final thought...its ok. More of a 'there is nothing else to watch so lets watch this', type of movie. I know that if I find a creepy looking door knocker in a place that I just moved into, and there is some twisted story behind it, I'm moving.

Houe of Vocices

N: House of Voices was a beautiful and eloquent horror flick shot at an Orphanage, no doubt lured me into a mesmerizing trance. The characters such as Anna Jurin (Virginie Ledoyen ) brought forth a wonderful, but terrifying character that not only had a hidden secrete, but would do anything to discover the truth behind the mysterious of this orphanage.

D: Oh my dog! When  I saw that Christophe Gans was a producer for this movie, I all but freaked. I mean this is the man that brought us gems like Brotherhood of the Wolf and Silent Hill the movie. So this has got to be another work of art.
Its the story of a young girl who comes to a closing orphanage to be a cleaning lady. Apparently she isn't the only one who is keeping a little secret. The orphanage is hiding its own.
Now this movie isn't really scary. More like a mystery thriller that keeps you guessing. The only beef I have with this film is that you are left confused. When you are told that there is a horrible secret but you are not told exactly what it is. And when the movie is over you sit back and go...'what was the secret? Tell me!'  Don't get me wrong this was beautifully done. Its just when you don't get what the secret is, its like why bother even saying there is a secret? You know, this was done in English and French. Maybe the answer lies in the French version. My mission is clear. Find the French version, learn the secrets...

Hollow

N: Take a vacation at a old country house. It might be a nice idea until a group of friends encounter some mysterious supernatural circumstances. As this mocumentry captures the unfolding events a bewitched tree becomes the epic center of evil that begins to plague the group.
Some of the footage got me scared enough, frightened enough that I waned to crawl out of my skin. The best footage was shot at night; screams and howls echo in this ebbing darkness as the group races to find safety, but seem to find no way out.

D: Last time it was a bunch of zombie flicks. Now its the infamous "Found Footage". And apparently, trees are killers. Well, cursed trees anyways.
Four friends go on a trip...no its not a joke. They go to a lovely British country side by the sea, documenting their adventures. Like many movies about friends going out on vacation together, they play with fate when they learn of a local legend about a tree that is the center of multiple killings.
I agree with my counter part, that this actually had me a bit freaked out. It ain't no Grave Encounters, but it had its high points. Weird noises are all the more creepy than sudden loud noises. There are a few things that I learned from this movie. One; If something has been said to be cursed for centuries, don't go near it. Two; If one of your friends is a cocky jerk who goes near cursed things, leave 'em. Better them than you who gets chased by some dark spirit. And three; If near cursed trees things start getting weird, people start acting weird, and weirdness never seems to stop. Run! Run for the hills, run for the borders! Run for the exercise.

The Frankenstine Therory

D: It's mockumentary time kiddies. And what 'found' film are we watching this time? A haunted house full of angry ghosts? Possessions that took a turn for the worst? Neither. We are hunting the Frankenstein monster!
We follow a small group of documentary film makers who are interviewing Professor Jonathan Venkenheim, who claims Frankenstein is real and is going to go the frozen artic to find it. The film makers go with him and soon discover that there might be some crazy truth behind the Frankenstein story.
First off, if I may point out...you don't, repeat, don't add music to a mockumentary. This movie did. The point of a 'found footage' movie is that it looks real. That means, no added music or loud noises that distract the illusion. Also you barely get to see the monster. When you do you, its only a minutes worth at most. And the ending...don't get me started on the ending. What they should of done is have them get Frankenstein into the cabin, kick it with him, and have a bowl of mac and cheese. Now there is an ending.

N: The only real time that you see this so called monster is on the front cover, but otherwise this film tries to create a somewhat real perspective of the "Frankensein." Lots of shouting. Complaining. Some jarring of fun. Screams echo into the artic wilderness- from the film crew as they try and survive this ordeal, but in the end we catch a slight glimpse of this monster and before I can understand what has just happened the credits start rolling.

Last Kind Words

D: Ok people, we are entering a new level of weirdness. I don't mean, 'huh that was weird'. I mean, 'my mind, its been juiced', weird.
A family goes to work on the farm of a childhood friend. Their son makes a new friend who seems to be harboring a secret that just make you go, whoa. Not only does she seem to be hiding something, but the woods seem to be as well. Spooky.
This is not your traditional ghost story. It seem like it should be, but it becomes a complete mind bending flick that puts you in over load. And that's putting it politely. I like it because it puts a different spin on the whole ghost story theme we all know and love. Its not a in your face ghost flick tough. Its not scary at all. Its more of a, 'I want to watch a ghost movie but I don't want to be freaked out' type of movie. Myself, I like a action packed ghost story, with detailed information with cryptic meanings that make sense later. All I know though is that if I'm out in the woods and some stranger tells me that I shouldn't go to a certain area with no explanation why, I'm going to turn and run away screaming like the deep fried chicken I am.

N: Well movie fans. This horror-like flick might not be a completely scary ordeal, but does lure you into a strange deeply disturbing story of a young girl that is not quite what she appears to be.  Deep in the woods that surround a small farm she lurks day and night, eventually we are confronted with a horrid fact that Amanda-the girl has is harboring a dark secrete. All in all the eerie music and scenery of the farmland-woods and interaction of the characters brought this movie in full circle....and though we find out that the ending is only just the beginning.

The Moth Diaries

D: An interesting title. Has nothing to do really with moths, or Mothman, or any type of moth for that matter. It's really about energy draining vampires and the crazy teenage girls who can sense them.
Young Rebecca goes to a fancy private school. There she and her friends are introduced to the new gal Ernessa. Slowly weird things begin to happen around Ernessa and only Rebecca seems to notice a connection. She suspects Ernessa to be a vampire, and feels she must stop her reign of vampire terror.
Its a good concept. You learn more about vampire lore. I myself wish to read the book Carmilla now (it was mentioned in the movie). But some things were not explained. Example, the moths. No reason for them to be there other than the fact that they are in the movie title. In any case, its not your usual vampire movie.  I mean there is blood and naughyness, but still. Final thought...not to bad, but not the greatest. Personally, if I suspected someone of being a bad vampire, I'd dial 800-Blade.

N: Not all is well at a young girls prep school. A new student emerges and a lingering feeling begins to surface. A feeling that this new student has a darker-secretive side to her. Only Rebecca is the only one that sees what really is going on, but in her attempt to seek out the truth; between the female seductions, strangely enough some of the students fall pray to this vampire-like energy sucker and as the death toll rises Rebecca must put a stop to these horrifying events.

6 Souls

N: We are introduced to a man that possess a rather horrifying traits. This man hides a dark and disturbing secrete. Ravished no doubt by six personalities; subdued in a mortal blood lust goes on a rampage. One woman Cara Harding played  by Julianne Moore is swept into this investigation and must solve this case.
Though I was intrigued, this flick took longer than inspected to explain everything and in truth really did not explain a lot. Hereafter I place this film into limbo.

D: Hey look! A new theory on why some people may have multiple personalities. Kind of creepy, but also kind of...eh.
A psychiatrist is introduced to a young man who seems to be suffering from having way to many people in one body. Turns out he is cursed and so is anyone who crosses his path who is faithless. Queue the dramatic music!
Another long one. While the concept is a good one, the deliverance is just to much. They take all this time to add drama and a bunch of other twists and turns, while failing to give explanations for certain events. You are left with more questions and wondering why this movie took so long to get to no where? Speaking of getting no where... how did I get here? Where am I? Why am I in bunny slippers and a fairy costume? I'm just crazy you say? Oh, well that explains it.

The Wicked

N: Folklore's. Legends. Wicked-nightmarish evil dwells in a house; casting and binding spells upon those that dare to venture through the thresholds of these decrepit grounds. Indeed, The Wicked walks the earth seeking young victims to orchestrate her feeding obsessions. Its difficult to explain the sudden fear that was felt while the drama uncoiled before me, but alas I was drawn into daydreams and doubt festered its graveness upon me. Thus, I prayed for this B rated horror flick to finally come to its horrid end.

D: Oh...my...pie! Can a movie be any longer? When you start getting restless you either look at your clock or say to the characters on screen, 'just kill 'em and get it over with'!
Well in this little slice we are introduced to the legend of The Wicked. The story of a witch who comes and takes children in order to live forever. Then we are introduced to a bunch of teenagers who can't take a hint that there maybe something behind the legend considering people who venture to the house that the witch supposedly resides in end up missing or dead. They don't of course, and end up having a very rough night.
Now I'm going to be short and quick about this one since the movie itself took forever and a day. Ok storyline, a lot of weird stuff without explanation, the jerk always gets killed first, and too long to get to the point! Get it? Got it? Done!

Beautiful Creatures

N: A young girl on the verge of inheriting dark powers returns to a small southern that still follows its close traditions. As the church going towns people seek to outcast the girl and continues to battle a family that nearly owns half the town the final countdown continues. In truth I thought the film was not half bad. Though at some parts became a little extra slow I still very much enjoyed the special effects and set designs. The climax of the movie will have you wanting to cast your own spells...

D: This may not be a horror story, but I guess since it has witches in it, it should be on our post....I mean Casters.
As my partner has said, its the story of a girl and boy who fall in love, girl turns out to be a Caster and on her 16th birthday she will either be a Caster for the good side or the dark side (that has cookies, ha!).
Not a bad film I must say. Good story, the effects were great. I liked the magic fight at the dinner table scene. I don't get the title but you know, it works I guess. All I know is if I had the magic powers that Lena, the main gal had...By the power of Grayskull!!

Paranormal Activity 4

D: Aaaarrggghh!!! Will this francise never end?? Ok, we have seen the other three Paranormal Activity's, but we decided to post a review on this one. If you have seen the other ones, you know what this whole movie series is all about.
Continuing from the second film, this one follows the story of a teenage chick named Alex and her family, who seem happy yet with issues. Anyways, her little brother Wyatt makes friends with their neighbors kid Robbie, whose mother is...you guessed it, Katie from the first movie. Well, after Robbie spends a few nights at Alex's house, weird things happen, yada yada ya. And again, we face a unhappy, none ending, ending.
For the love of pizza, just end it people! I'm sick of seeing great ghostly effects, moments that are scary without the loud music, and everything else being destroyed by a crappy none ending! That is this films major flaw. And it seems that the characters are getting dumber and dumber. 'Weird things are happening, better not do anything about it and just follow the odd noises'. If you like it, that's fine by me, you still rock. But I think that this movies series should just be about random paranormal experience's. That way, we got something fresh each time. Instead it seems, we just got more films and more unanswered questions that just keeps going. Other than that, I have no opinion.

N: Its a Fast and Furious race that ends with a sudden suicidal crash. Darn am I comparing Paranormal Activity to another movie? Well yes I am. Both movies I might add should have stopped long ago. Like the Saw Franchise as another example.
This ghostly-demonic flick might have had a few sudden twists and turns that got me to huddle under the blanket, but for the most part I just plain did not care. As D mentioned...as I say end this sheared of  continuous annoyance.

The Conjuring

D: Finally! After a bunch of zombie flicks (and a fixed car later), we are proud to bring you, fresh from the theater, drum roll please...The Conjuring! A ghost flick baby.
This juicy haunting is based off a true story. They are always fun. A family moves into, you guessed it, a haunted house. They enjoy it very briefly however as supernatural events start up. They then seek the help of noted demonologist Ed and Lorriane Warren (who are real people. Look them up its interesting), to assist them in getting rid of the nasty boogies.
Nice movie! Even though its based on a true story and you don't know how much of it is fabricated, you don't care. You only care about the story that is flashing on the screen. Especially the ghost parts. I would seriously recommend this and I tell you, you got to watch it on the big screen. Don't wait for it to come out on DVD or Blue ray or what ever.  Just go and see it. You will not be disappointed. I know I had learned a valuable lesson from this movie...check the history of the house before you buy it! What's that? This place might be haunted by a angry spirit? Watch as I turn and run!

N: An old tale is conjured up in yet another most thrilling-bone chilling horror flick to come to a theater near you. Possession in the form of supernatural expressions explores the house, burning its malevolent hatred into any soul that dwells within as a most heart stopping story is unveiled. Proceed with caution as you enter this wicked house. Beware of the ghosts that wonder the hallways late at night. The family that lives here in this country house; victims they are as something from the past still remains and wants nothing more than to murder this family.

A Little Bit Zombie

D: What the cuss is up with all these zombie movies that we have been watching? Oh well, who doesn't love a good brain buffet huh? Especially with this little slice of 'what the blood bath'?
In this little comedy, a soon to be bride and groom along with their matron of honor and best man are out to the family cabin for some fun when out of no where the groom suffers from a sudden craving for brains, yet somehow finds a way to resist it. If that wasn't enough, a crazed zombie hunter and his brainy sidekick are looking for him.
This movie was...wow. I mean, when it first started I wasn't sure if I was given some weird drug or if I had finally jumped off the crazy cliff into the ocean of insanity. Its one of those lesser known funny horror movies that you find at random. The acting was great, the plot good, and even though it looked like it was done for penny's on the dollar, all in all, it wasn't horrible. I'm not sure if I would go out and buy it, but its a good movie to start your weekend. After a long day, sit down on the couch, cuddle up with your pet bunny, with a nice bowl of brains. Suddenly, I'm feeling a little hungry....

N:A little more Zombie please! For another zombie flick I was hoping to see more outpouring of brain eating zombies, but I guess that's ok. In retrospect this flick was full of not only some comedy, but another take on the whole zombie idea. Perhaps next time I'll be served a side of brains. Boy am I hungry.

Zombie Land

N: Blast your way into Zombie Land with your double barrel shotgun and double tap these bastards. But first some important rules must be followed to survive the infestation of the undead. What are these rules? Well the only way to find out is to tune into this flick. Sorry, wish I could say.
Overall this was a smash and grab movie. The opening credits enthralled me as Rob Zombie blasted into my mind. It was fantastic and the dynamics between the characters lured me into the Zombie Land world full of mayhem and blood filled nourishment . I'm Portland Oregon shouting out to Zombie Land and sighing off.
D: Screw Disney Land! I wanna go to Zombie Land! The zombies may run, but if I just get creative like Tallahassee I will be unstoppable!
Yes, the world has gone down the zombie toilet and loner, Columbus, teams up with zombie killer Tallahassee to make it through. And a zombie movie is not complete unless you got two street smart, gun slinging sisters.
Oh the epic awesomeness! Not only does this movie have unstoppable action, but its so finger licking funny it hurts. You got two butt kicking sisters, a socially awkward young man who is afraid of everything, and Tallahassee! If there was ever a zombie killing mentor, it would be Tallahassee. I don't recommend this movie, I insist that you watch it. Oh Tallahassee you insane bastard, teach me the ways of crazed zombie hunting.

Grave Encounters 2

D: Wow, I tell you wow! Don't do needle work while watching this movie, ok? You might just stab yourself with it every time one of these demon patients jump out of no where.
Yes kids, we are going back to the asylum. The sequel for Grave Encounters begins with a college student obsessed with finding the truth of the horror movie. So he and his friends go searching for it...BIG mistake.
This sequel actually blows the first one away. Ok granted that the beginning was painfully slow and just showed a bunch of college students being college students. I remember those days. But I don't remember being THAT stupid as to go to a haunted asylum that people went missing in. Anyways, once they get to the asylum, it gets weird. I highly recommend this for everyone who likes a good mockumentary.  I image its what a bad trip would be like. At least for me...and that is why I don't do drugs.

N: The motto in this movie: "Death Awaits." Indeed, as we once again enter the worst nightmare...a group of student filmmakers venture to the notorious mad house to capture the truth about what happened to the previous group of explorers. In a way this flick makes me want to shoot my own mockumentry, but I've already experienced what's its like to be haunted for a number of years and watching this gut wrenching film brings a gloomy overcast of fear into my body. Thus, my own personal nightmares set the stage and this bone chilling flick puts me on the edge of my seat.
Dolls,, Rocking Horses, and apparitions of pure evil stalk the empty and abandoned corridors that become a hellish maze, twisting reality into a paranormal nightmare. Who shall survive? Who will be swept away? Watch for yourself.

Resident Evil

D: Oh my gosh, is it like, Zombie month or something cause we have been going zombie crazy...movie wise that is. And look, my tribute is to a zombie movie. And today kids, its Resident Evil!
Ok, so I know that not many people would probably like this movie based on one of the coolest games ever made. But you know what? I ain't those people, ha!
So this bloody gem is based off the game...you guest it, Resident Evil by Capcom. Only its been altered a bit. RE players will know what I mean. This movie is about Alice, a security chick for the corporation Umbrella, which is creating a virus that turns those infected into, can you guess? That's right, zombies. Alice and her rag tag team are trapped by these flesh eating hooligans and they got to shoot their way out or be trapped with them forever! And Michelle Rodriguez is so kick arse in this, as well as Millia Jovovich. Plus Marilyn Manson helped out with the soundtrack. He's a crazy SOB, but a genius one at that.
Now for me this is a great tribute to a great game.  Cause for me, a movie based on a game is just that, BASED. This one has a lot of familiar additives from said game. Zombies, Umbrella the evil corporation, zombie dogs, the train from RE2 game, even the licker makes an appearance, and a beautiful one at that. The point is, this is one fun ride of a movie that I remember seeing in the theaters, falling in love with and adding it to my movie collection. So if you want to see some awesome chicks kick some zombie butt then this is the movie for you. Yes, I have fond memories of seeing this with  my mommy. Ah mom, why you hiding your eyes? Look, zombie go nom nom.

World War Z

D: The zombies are coming! The running zombies are coming!! Holy shrine man can these SOB's run. Yes people a zombie movie were the undead can run like bats out of hell. Oh the humanity!
Everyone knows the storyline right? A mysterious virus that turns people into zombies decimates the world and no one knows what to do. Well, Brad Pitts character Gerry, is asked to go and search for a cure. Huh, you'd think that would be one of the things that everyone would be wondering about...is there a cure? Gerry is sent out into the chaos to search for it. So much chaos...
Talk about having you on the edge of your seat. This movie had my eyes glued to the big screen in front of me and freaking out over the running zombies. And the way that these dead funks chased their pray...AHHH!! They are swarming man. Like ants. Which is what the creators of the zombies had in mind. Fun film fact, that's what they used for the behavior of the zombies...ants. Look it up its very interesting. Anyways, final thought...great for the theater, eh, for my collection. Not sure if its right for me. But its good for suspense baby. I do wish to mention one thing though...who the frack takes their knitting to a zombie movie???

N: My body began to race with heart throbbing energies as city after city began to become over run by a mass mania of  Zombies. With a world out of control one man must confront this devastation and search for an ultimate cure. A cure that could eradicate the undead. Within this chaos the movie shifts into a beautiful perspective of how far we can go to take back our world.

Warm Bodies

D: Oh my graves man! I never thought someone would come up with this kind of love story, with zombies!
A story about a zombie called 'R', who is wanting more than just the usual zombie life. During a routine hunt with his small zombie pack he meets the girl of his non-existing dreams. He saves her from the other zombies and keeps her hidden. All the while something human inside him is waking up. Their relationship then affects the other zombies creating a chain reaction that just might save the human race.
Epically awesome!!! How can anyone not love this movie? Ok, yes we are use to the usual zombies trying to eat us and we are suppose to kill them, but come on people! The guy who plays R was great. I mean, sure it may not take much to play a soulless mind dead zombie, but to emotions to it like love or shock? Nice! And to see things from the zombies point of view is just something you don't see in movies. I mean you see it in vampire movies but zombies?
A beautiful message of people reuniting and reconnecting. People and zombies living in harmony. Makes me feel all fuzzy and alive inside. Come on zombie boy, give us a hug!

N: Warm Bodies makes me want a relationship with an undead Zombie. This film indeed shined a new light on the Zombie apocalypse and gave new enlightening perspective towards Zombie based films. I enjoyed how R sparked his new found relationship with a daring girl that wondered into the lands of the undead. As the carnage spread R began to once again change and in the course of this movie everyone began to realize what was really taking place. See for yourself the outcome of this movie by renting or even buying your very own copy.
